Serves as Technical Writer subject matter expert in assigned areas of responsibility, providing expertise on technical projects and procedures that may affect operations within the National Airspace System (NAS), as pertains to the policy outlined in the FAAs Safety Management System (SMS).
Duties
Supports National Airspace System (NAS) Safety Management System (SMS) activities.
Performs complex assignments pertaining to SRM and quality control programs/polices. Participates in, and provides direction and support for Safety Risk Management (SRM) panels conducted by the Quality Control Group (QCG). Documents hazards, impacts and trends to be used to create and review SRM documents.
Identifies and resolves challenging problems or issues that often cross organizational boundaries and impact the accomplishment of strategic objectives from an SMS technical writing perspective.
Applies SMS methodology and SRM process flow to all NAS equipment, operations, and procedures to identify safety hazards and address risk. Formulates documents that are clear, grammatically correct and strictly adhere to all FAA policies and processes, in order to thoroughly capture and document the findings of SRM panels.
Prepares SRM Safety Analysis Phases, Preliminary Hazard List (PHL), Hazard Analysis Worksheet (HAW) and documents Causes and System State, during SRM Panels.
Utilizes knowledge of FAA air traffic control processes, terminology and FAA Orders, as it relates to SMS. Facilitates conversation with a variety of stakeholders to include but not limited to Directors of Operation, Airport Authorities, Pilots and the general public, as applicable.
Conducts highly complex and challenging research for controversial and/or robust SRM panels utilizing SMTS.
Completes assigned tasks within strict time frames while affording suitable time for comments and review, as outlined in the FAA SMS manual.
