CSA Air, INC. PROFESSIONAL EXPECTATION STATEMENT:

In the performance of your respective tasks and duties all employees are expected to confirm to the following:

POSITION PURPOSE:

DIRECTOR OF OPERATIONS (DO)

This position is required by 14 CFR 119.65(a)(2) and all candidates for consideration must meet the qualifications of this regulation.

RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES:

  • The DO reports directly to the President of CSA.
  • Holds final responsibility for all CSA flight operations with the exception of the corporate aircraft. This responsibility extends to the entire Flight Department which includes the subsidiaries of Flight Following and Flight Training.
  • Is jointly responsible with the Pilot In Command (PIC) for the initiation, continuation, diversion, or termination of a flight.
  • Has overall operational control authority for the initiation, continuation, diversion or termination of a flight. The DO may and does delegate this authority to other persons having operational control as listed in this volume but may not delegate the responsibility for those functions. The duration of this authority is on-going for those having operational control.
  • Is responsible for canceling, diverting, or delaying a flight if in his / her opinion or the opinion of the PIC, the flight cannot operate or continue to operate safely as planned or released. He / she will also assure through the flight following process that each flight is monitored with respect to at least the following:
    • Departure of the flight from the place of origin and arrival at the place of destination, including any intermediate stops, and any diversions there from.
    • Maintenance or mechanical delays encountered at places of origin and destination and intermediate stops.
    • Any known conditions that may adversely affect the safety of flight.
    • Will oversee and be responsible for the revision status of those volumes of the Company manual listed in the Preface of the 121 Operations Manual. He/she may delegate specific revision duties and/or authority to other flight department members including the Chief Pilot, Flight Training Manager, and Assistant Chief Pilots.
    • Has authority and responsibility for establishing flight department policies, procedures, instructions, and information. He / she may delegate this authority for specific decisions through direct communication to flight department managers (Chief Pilot, Flight Training Manager, Manager of Flight Following, Assistant Chief Pilots) as needed but retains the responsibility.
    • Upon request from the Chief Inspector or the Director of Maintenance, the DO will furnish any pertinent flight department information necessary for the preparation of Service Difficulty Reports and Mechanical Interruption
  • Will coordinate and cooperate with the Director of Maintenance (DOM) wherever required in the interest of airworthiness.
  • He / she is responsible for providing enough ground instructors, flight instructors (aircraft and simulator), and check pilots to conduct the required training and checking under 14 CFR 121. He / she will coordinate with the Chief Pilot and Flight Training Manager to accomplish this task.
  • He / she is responsible for establishing a ground and flight training program which meets or exceeds FAA and Company requirements. He / she has the authority to modify and develop this program according to Company needs and may delegate these duties of the Flight Training Manager or qualified check airmen.
  • Has the responsibility to discharge his / her duties, to meet applicable legal requirements and to maintain safe operations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the CEO.

Education and Experience:

  • Requires a bachelors degree with at least five years airline experience directly related to FAR 121/135 training or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the FAR 121/135 operating environment.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as technical data, safety rules/regulations, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write management reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to develop and proof training materials.
  • Ability to speak effectively in interpersonal situations and before groups of employees.
  • Strong planning and organizational skills.
  • Proven presentation and facilitation skills.
  • Proficient with MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Directly manages and supervises Flight Department

Training Requirements:

  • Stay up to date on current training and development techniques and relevant information to the aviation field.
  • Stay up to date with regulatory FAA and TSA training requirements.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort:

  • Work typically performed in an office environment. However, sometimes work involves moderate exposure to unusual elements such as extreme temperatures, dirt, or dust, etc.
  • Light physical effort - Requires handling of average-weight objects up to 10 pounds or some standing or walking. Exposed to any number of elements but with none present to the extent of being disagreeable
  • Ability to travel to offsite locations (20-30).
