Airbus US Manufacturing Facility is looking for a EHS Specialist II to join our Environmental Health and Safety Department based in Mobile, AL

The EHS Specialist III - Flight Line Operations Safety Focal will improve ground and aviation safety through the prevention of accidents and incidents. Focus is to encourage and support voluntary reporting of safety issues, maintain the speak-up culture, and align the Flight Line with the site Occupational Health and Safety Management System. This role will drive proactive occupational hazard recognition and risk mitigation activities for the Airbus MMS Flight Line and Delivery. Role success will be determined by collaboration with key partners in the business unit to include, but not limited to, Flight Safety, Quality, Operations, Customer Liaison, and suppliers.

Your challenges:

Operational EHS (60)

  • Develop a robust and balanced Flight Line Operations Safety Program that meets the requirements of the business, maintains 29 CFR 1910 compliance, and ensures continued safety performance improvement during production ramp and beyond.

  • Strengthen safety culture by using ongoing initiatives, such as Safety Ambassadors, institute innovative programs sought at reducing injury to people and products.

  • Shift safety demeanor from manufacturing to line operations by improving worker participation for all aspects of EHS, including functional links to the Quality and Flight Safety organizations.

  • Drive utilization of incident management platforms, corrective action resolution, and root cause elimination.

  • Develop and maintain an EHS risk and opportunities matrix for area of responsibility.

  • Drive incident investigations per policy and facilitate leadership engagement within the process, leading the core investigation team for Flight Line.

  • Audit EHS conformity within the area of responsibility on a routine frequency, ensure adequate and timely follow-up to resolution.

  • Support spill control, SPCC, and crisis management/emergency planning.

  • Assists in maintaining, updating, and coordinating site wide EHS training programs applicable to Flight Line.

  • Supports all aspects of EHS management system integration.

  • Represents EHS for Quality management system activities.

Project Management & Data analysis (30)

  • Strengthen use of database collection systems for EHS in area of responsibility. Functional knowledge and awareness of other key data pathways owned by various functions to ensure adequate response and/or action.

  • Gather, input, and extract data to conduct analysis, establish corrective actions, and provide oversight of organizational change.

  • Develop reports and presentations on a routine frequency to ensure Flight Line leadership is updated on EHS trends, projects, and initiatives.

  • Lead and/or participate cross functionally as a representative of Flight Line for all EHS improvement projects that will alter the operation

Additional Responsibilities (10):
  • Manage environmental compliance requirements per Airbus policy and procedures within area of responsibility

  • Manage the Airbus Operating System Safety function for Flight Line

  • Support the Quality Organization with management of the FOD prevention program

Your boarding pass:

Education:

  • Bachelor of Science in safety or aviation related field or;

  • Graduate of the U.S. Army Aviation Safety Officer program or;

  • Naval and Marine Safety Officer Course or;

  • The U.S. Air Force Safety Officer/skill level 5 course or;

  • Graduate of the U.S. Army Ground Safety Officer course or;

  • Naval Aviation Safety Specialist Course or;

  • Other relevant coursework

Experience:
  • 5 years experience working in a Flight Line or Flight Operations environment as a safety professional

  • One (1) year experience supporting an aviation safety program

Knowledge, Skills, Demonstrated Capabilities:
  • Must be knowledgeable of OSHA, EPA, FAA/EASA, NTSB and other applicable federal, state and local regulations

  • Experience in the technical field of aviation safety and accident prevention and experience in use of FAA, NTSB, or ICAO documentation is required

  • Experience with accident investigation techniques and procedures. FAA accident investigation credentials preferred

  • Experience with environmental, health, and safety data software or database

  • Position requires knowledge of federal, state and local environmental, health, and safety laws.

  • Experience performing hazardous waste inspections and understanding processes which can produce hazardous wastes and hazardous air pollutants.

  • Experience with Lean Manufacturing concepts

Preferred
  • Certifications: CSP, SMS, or comparable certification

  • Google Workspace applications (Sheets, Slides)or Microsoft applications (word, Power point, Excel)

  • Proven collaborator management ability

Communication Skills (Spoken, Written, Influencing, Proficiency in Other Languages):
  • Demonstrated communication skills, both written and oral with technical and non-technical staff, at all levels of management

  • Strong communication skills both written and verbal

Travel Required:
  • 10 Domestic and International
