Job SummaryUnder the leadership of the Manager, Software Asset Management (SAM), Compliance and Production Control the Analyst will:
• Ensure that software assets are procured, controlled and managed in accordance with NAV CANADA financial authorities and legal requirements.
• Participate in vendor negotiations in the procurement of software licences, subscriptions, maintenance contracts and cloud solutions ensuring NAV CANADA receives the best value available.
• Provide software licensing expertise and guidance to team members, Technology Organization colleagues and clients.

Job Description

Key Accountabilities:

  • Provide software licensing expertise and guidance to understand, validate, and cost the software licensing requirements of new initiatives, ensuring solutions are in a state of license compliance.
  • Provide technical leadership to Technology Management and solution delivery teams for the research, identification, and recommendations regarding the compliance impact of proposed software solutions and process changes.
  • Oversee vendors to obtain software quotes and prepare cost and feature comparisons; negotiate favourable contract terms (e.g., discounts) and communicate NAV CANADA contract terms and conditions. 
  • Lead initiatives to develop and improve the delivery of software asset management.
  • Under Manager’s direction, lead responses to vendor license audits as well as complex or multiple complex project(s), including cross-functional projects.
  • Act as a coach/mentor guiding and developing junior team members and recommend training to support their development.
  • Assist the direct manager with team leadership; assigning tasks, monitoring completion, reporting and providing feedback on performance. Recommend and implement procedures and standards governing the work and train team members on their application.
  • Assist the direct manager in facilitating agreement so that participants work effectively as a team; guiding members to achieve goals and objectives. Provides opinion and recommendation to management on issues affecting the dynamics/productivity of the team.

Job Requirements

Education:

Graduation from a recognized institution with a degree in Business or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience

Experience:

At least 5 years&39; experience in the following areas:

  • Performing software asset management activities such as analysis of business requirements, preparing, analyzing and reporting financial information. 
  • Providing software licensing expertise and guidance to a large group of clients ranging from end-user support to senior management. 
  • Tracking, identifying and renewing software maintenance agreements including obtaining software quotes and preparing cost and feature comparisons. 
  • Conducting compliance reviews, identifying exposures, and propose appropriate remediation to ensure compliance with legal and contractual obligations. 
  • Negotiating contract terms and conditions and pricing with vendors.

Knowledge:

  • Deep and current understanding of major software vendor licensing and maintenance programs (e.g., Microsoft, IBM, ServiceNow, Workday etc.). 
  • Deep Knowledge of software asset management best practices 
  • Broad knowledge across the spectrum of IT technologies, including business applications, infrastructure, client computing and service delivery models, as they pertain to software licensing models
  • Knowledge of the Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) framework and, specifically, knowledge of the Service Support processes (Incident Management, Problem Management, Change Management, Release Management and Configuration Management) and their relationships. 
  • Knowledge of accounting principles, including variance analysis techniques.

  • Ability to negotiate and maintain vendor agreements and contracts. 
  • Ability to supervise, facilitate and coach for performance improvement. 
  • Ability to train individuals and groups. 
  • Ability to participate in one or more active projects and/or assignments effectively.
  • Ability to develop process documentation and training materials.

Working conditions:

  • Hybrid: This position is based at the Ottawa TSC location but may be eligible for a flexible work arrangement.
