Primary Objective of the Position:
Under the direction of the Director, Flight Dispatch, the Flight Dispatch Assistant position shall provide administrative support to the Flight Dispatch team and Flight Operations department. Qualified individuals who demonstrate skill and aptitude in the Flight Dispatch Assistant position will be considered for Cargojet specific Flight Dispatcher training as schedules and training resources allow and will be given priority for future Flight Dispatcher vacancies if successful.
Essential Position Functions:
- Assist Flight Dispatchers with Flight Watch and other duties, including:
- Monitoring of ACARS communications,
- Identifying and notifying Dispatchers of operationally significant NOTAM,
- Monitoring aircraft status and recording aircraft movements and position reports,
- Creating and communicating fuel orders,
- Communicating with internal and external customers,
- Communication with aircraft and other operational personnel via company radio; and
- Providing support in the event of aircraft diversion or Emergency Response activation.
- Provide administrative support to the Flight Operations department, including:
- Processing flight envelopes, trip reports, fuel slips and other flight documentation,
- Assisting with charter quotes and flight permits,
- Assisting with operational data reconciliation and quality assurance processes,
- Validating invoices for airport activity, overflights, and air navigation system usage; and
- Assisting with internal and external reporting requirements.
- Complete Cargojet specific Flight Dispatcher training to become qualified as a Flight Dispatcher.
- Additional duties as required by the Director, Flight Dispatch.
- Fulfill all SMS Duties and Responsibilities required of employees by Section 2.2.6 FOM.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Post-secondary education in a related field preferred or a combination of education and experience.
- High degree of accountability and attention to detail.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to build relationships.
- Ability to work rotating day and night shift and overtime as required.
- Ability to effectively communicate and interact with others.
- Ability to work under time constraints and under stressful and/or emergency situations.
- Excellent computer skills required (MS Office). Previous experience with data management/analysis tools (Excel, PowerBI) an asset.
- Must have authorization to work in Canada for any employer.
- Must possess an Industry Canada Restricted Operator Certificate – Aeronautical (“Radio License”).
- Must have completed the Transport Canada Generic Flight Dispatcher exams (FDOPS, FDMET).
