In 2022, Airbus created Airbus Beluga Transport (AiBT) in Toulouse, France, to deliver outsized charter transport services to Airbus other divisions and external customers (civilian and military) with 4 to 5 Beluga ST aircrafts, in view of generating new service revenues.

Airbus Beluga Transport is an Airbus subsidiary.

To support its ramp-up, Airbus Beluga Transport is opening a Project Leader position, within the Engineering & Business Development team.

The mission of the Engineering & Business Development team is the following:

Deliver the industrial means and payload certifications required to develop the service

Sell the service

Coordinate the preparation of the head of version missions, i.e. the missions in which, the payload being new, significant engineering, manufacturing, and certification work is required.

Organization & position accountabilities: Project leaders directly report to the Head of Engineering & Business Development. 

Their accountabilities are the following:

They assess the feasibility of customer transport requests, after a first filtering done by the Sales team.

They manage new payload certification and new jig development projects, from payload data collection to EASA certification and jig delivery. 

They coordinate the preparation of the head of version missions: in this role they are accountable to fulfill customers’ orders and maximize customer satisfaction while ensuring highest standard of safety in Beluga operations, performance, cost, planning, quality, contractual and regulatory adherence. They rely on a mission leader from the Operations organization for the coordination of all operational aspects.

Main activities

For transport request feasibility assessment, you will:

Collect mission input data from the customer (broker, freight forwarder, or payload manufacturer) to feed the feasibility assessment,

Coordinate a cross-functional team tasked with the feasibility assessment

Prepare the feasibility assessment report and present it to the decision committee.

For payload certification and or new jig development projects, you will:

Approach the payload manufacturer with the Sales team and manage the payload data collection,

Ensure resources from all contributing teams are secured,

Build up and keep up to date a detailed project planning and a risks & opportunities picture,

Update KPIs to closely monitor the project progress and be able to efficiently report on the project status to stakeholders at any time,

Drumbeat all project contributors (AiBT Engineering & Manufacturing / ATI DOA, other AiBT functions on a need basis, the payload manufacturer) to deliver on performance, time, cost and quality,

Launch and follow recovery and mitigation actions in case of issue or risk

Deliver lessons learned and propose improvement actions for the next projects.

For the preparation of the head of version missions, you will - in cooperation with the Operations mission leader for the operational aspects:

Manage the two-way communication with the customer to ensure that all mission input data (payload characteristics, mission date, origin and destination, specific customer requirements, etc...) are available and updated to the teams in due time for mission preparation and with appropriate policy margins.

Build up and keep up to date a preparation planning, a cost breakdown, a risks and opportunities picture, and a mission readiness cockpit.

Drum-beat all internal and external contributing stakeholders to deliver on performance, time, cost, quality the mission enablers: contract, payload certification and jig, operations

Launch and follow recovery and mitigation actions in case of issue or risk during the mission preparation

Track and authorize cost deviations identified by the functions versus allocated cost (or seek authorization from hierarchy for deviations)

Coordinate internal and external communication

Organize specific activities like dry runs to de-risk the mission

Deliver lessons learned and propose improvement actions for the next missions

 

Formal Education & Certification :

You have a master’s degree in aerospace engineering or mechanical engineering

Knowledge & Experience

Minimum of 10 years in an aeronautical environment, with 5 years in a technical role 

Demonstrated project management skills

Customer management experience

Knowledge of structure design & stress is a strong plus

Knowledge of aeronautical certification is a plus

Negotiation level of English and French

This role will require 24/7 stand-by activities to support customer communication and act as customer voice during mission execution. 

Traveling worldwide can also be requested several times a year.
