The Boeing Electrical Engineering Core Group is seeking a broad range of or experience levels, including Expert, Consultant, and Senior Consultant level Electromagnetic Effects and Analysis Engineers – DER or ODA Unit Members.

This position is for an experienced certification engineer to serve as an Engineering Unit Member (E-UM) under The Boeing Company’s Organization Delegation Authorization. The E-UM will manage various Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and ODA activities. The Boeing Company ODA STC office supports the FAA certification of modifications to multiple platforms ranging from military commercial derivative aircraft including KC-46A, VC-25, -32, C-40A, C-40B, E-4B, AWACS, AEW&C and others.  This position requires existing understanding of the FAA 14 CFR Part 25 to develop approaches to address certification challenges and manage certification of STC projects.

The candidate is expected to have been previously appointed as ODA Engineering Unit Member (E-UM), Company Designated Engineering Representative (DER), ODA Administrator or have an appointment from the FAA, if not the candidate should be expected to have the necessary experience to be eligible to be added to the ODA unit within short order. 

This position provides an excellent opportunity to develop new solutions, to grow and mentor the next generation of engineers.  In addition, this will guide the candidates’ career towards the submittal of a candidacy for a position in the Boeing Technical Fellowship.

Primary job responsibilities will include:

  • Coordinates with Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) programs on behalf of the ODA
  • Coordinates with program engineering and multiple discipline organizations to ensure successful execution
  • Manages ODA Unit Member (UM) priorities
  • Manages certification tasks on behalf of the FAA
  • Review Certification Plans and other Certification Artifacts on behalf of the ODA Project Administrator
  • Work with programs to develop Type Certification Board materials
  • Manages FAA correspondence and meeting minutes
  • Support resolution of technical and certification issues on behalf of the ODA
  • Be knowledgeable in ODA Procedures and Processes
  • Able to leverage existing DER and/or ODA unit experience to support projects
  • Educate program engineering on certification requirements and processes
  • Provide guidance and direction on behalf of the ODA Project Administrator
  • Mentor Engineering Unit Members in Training (E-UMiT) with the goal of developing the next generation of Boeing ODA E-UM and CVE members
  • Support project management by tracking and reporting project status, by generating bids and requirements, and by providing work statement, budget, and schedule

Other job responsibilities may include:

  • Review supplier and partner qualification data for Electromagnetic Compatibility
  • Develop and validate electromagnetic requirements for electricalelectronic systems, mechanical systems, interconnects and structures
  • Perform EMI/EMC, Nuclear Hardening, HIRF/Lightning, RF COSITE, and Antenna Coupling analyses and test
  • Develop and implement Test Automation for aircraft modifications
  • Apply EMI engineering technology experience to document and solve complex problems
  • Perform trade studies, modeling, simulation and other forms of analyses to predict component, interconnects, and system performance and to optimize design
  • Apply conversion, correction, and antenna factors to EMI/EMC analyses and test
  • Work on a cross-functional support team and communicate clearly in various review boards both internally & externally

This position requires the ability to obtain a US Security Clearance for which the US Government requires US Citizenship.  An interim and/or final U.S. Secret Clearance Post-Start is required.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry required
  • Must have 9 or more years of previous experience in the defense or aerospace industry
  • 5 or more years related work experience
  • Must have at least 7 years of additional MIL-STD-461/464 and/or DO-160 EMI/EMC experience
  • Must have a current designation by the FAA as a Designated Engineering Representative (DER) or Organization Designation Authorization Engineering Unit Member (ODA E-UM) with Chart C2 Electrical Equipment (Equipment Qualification Tests or Lightning/HIRF Protection)
  • Must currently hold the following Chart C2 Authorized Areas for Delegated Functions for two (2) or more of the following coordinates:  Lightning/HIRF Protection A7, B7, C7, D7, E7, F7, G7, H7, I7, J7, K7
  • Must be willing to travel at least 75 of the time as required

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • 10 or more years related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • An ABET accredited Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or a Master’s/PhD in electrical engineering
  • Active U.S. Security Clearance
  • Hold all of the following Part 25 Chart C2 Authorized Areas for Delegated Functions for the following coordinates:  Equipment Qualification Tests A2, B2, C2, D2, E2, F2, G2, H2, I2, J2, K2
  • Experience as Company Designated Engineering Representative (DER) and/or have been part of an ODA staff in an ODA Engineering Unit Member (E-UM) or ODA Administrator capacity
  • Experience working STC Projects
  • Experience working with Military Commercial Derivative Aircraft (MCDA)
  • Additional authorizations in one or more of the following: Service Documents, Electrical Systems, Avionics Systems and Sub Systems, Electrical Load Analysis, Lightning HIRF Protection, Safety Analysis, Enhanced Airworthiness Program for Airplane Systems (EAPAS) and electrical wiring interconnect system (EWIS)
  • Previous experience in the defense or aerospace industry
  • Previous experience in Electromagnetic Effects

(e.g. Bachelor) and typically 9 or more years experience in an engineering classification or a Masters degree with typically 7 or more years experience in an engineering classification or a PhD degree with typically 4 or more years experience in an engineering classification.  In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Consultant (Level 5):

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology, engineering physics or physics. (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 14 or more years experience in an engineering classification or a Masters degree with typically 12 or more years experience in an engineering classification or a PhD degree with typically 9 or more years experience in an engineering classification.  In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Senior Consultant (Level 6):

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology, engineering physics or physics. (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 20 or more years experience in an engineering classification or a Masters degree with typically 18 or more years experience in an engineering classification or a PhD degree with typically 15 or more years experience in an engineering classification.  In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Relocation:

This position offers relocation based on candidate eligibility and also a possible Sign-On bonus if qualified.

Expert - $109,650 - 148,350

Consultant - $135,150 - 182,850

Senior Consultant - $164,900 - 223,100
