Job Description:

Job Summary:  This position will work closely with the International Certification Management (ICM) team performing activities in support of FAA and TCCA type certificate and supplemental type certificate projects. Works closely developing relationships with the FAA Project Managers and TCCA Program Managers so as to provide local support to the responsible ICM located in Marignane or Donauworth. Operationally takes prioritization and project direction from Head of Initial Certification

Primary Responsibilities:

Certification activities:     100

  • Set validation priorities to align with AH International Certification Engineer (ICE),
  • Gain detailed understanding of the Validation Type Certification (VTC) project working with the ICE and CE’s for the programs to support validation.
  • Ensure clear communication and understanding of VTC issues between FAA/ TCCA regulators and AH ICM and ICE.
  • Provide FAA/TCCA certification knowledge and expertise to the ICM and ICE as needed.
  • Recognize possible compliance risks and provide feedback and recommendations for risk mitigation.
  • Build and maintain a strong relationship with FAA and or TCCA validation office PMs and experts.
  • Participate in VTC projects to include coordination meetings with ICM and regulators.

Qualified Experience and Training: 

Education:

Required

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical/electrical/aerospace Engineering or equivalent experience

Preferred

  • FAA Designated Engineering Representative a plus
  • TCCA DAR a plus

Experience:

Required

  • Minimum 8 years aviation technical experience
  • Minimum 5 years previous experience working for or with the FAA on certification projects

Preferred

  • Good understanding of the FAA and or TCCA organizational structure
  • Previous employment with the FAA or TCCA in certification
  • TC or STC Foreign Validation experience

Licensure/Certifications:

Required

  • None

Preferred

  • FAA Designated Engineering Representative a plus
  • TCCA DAR a plus

Travel Required:

  • 20 - 40  Domestic and International depending on projects

Citizenship:

  •  Must be a US citizen or green card holder able to travel between the US, Canada and Europe

Qualified Skills: 

Knowledge, Skills, Demonstrated Capabilities:

Required

  • Must have a strong working knowledge of the FAA CFRs concerning rotorcraft certification and compliance
  • Demonstrated strong understanding of certification data and regulatory requirements
  • Ability to collaborate and facilitate discussions between regulators and AH ICM teams
  • Aviation technical experience and ability to understand conformity and compliance regulations and data

Preferred

  • Familiarity with the Canadian CARs concerning rotorcraft certification and compliance is a plus

Communication Skills:

  • Ability to communicate effectively in verbal and written form in English

Preferred:

  • Ability to communicate in French/German a plus

Technical Systems Proficiency:

Complexity of the Role:

Works closely with regulatory agencies in the US, Canada and Europe as well as the European and US certification teams to expedite and enable certification of new aircraft models, supplemental type certificates, as well as adaptations of existing aircraft.

Level of Decision Making:

  • High level of autonomy working with teams and regulators
  • With HO Initial Certification key decision maker on IP and ELOS compliance methodology for FAA and TCCA regulations

Will report directly VP Engineering & Flight Operations.  Operational reporting to Head of Initial Certification for projects.

Job Dimensions:

  • High ability to influence and impact company revenue, strategy and customer relationships through timely foreign validations.  Lack of timely or successful VTC can impact organization by loss of customers, and loss of revenue in excess of millions of dollars.

Nature of Contacts:

  • Direct weekly  communications with AH ICM teams
  • Direct weekly communications with AH program CE’s
  • Direct weekly/monthly external communications to influence and negotiate with FAA/TCCA/EASA regulators.

Physical Requirements:

  • Onsite: 60-80
  • Vision: able to see and read computer screen and other electronic equipment with screens, able to read documents, reports and engineering drawings. Required daily.
  • Hearing: able to hear to participate in conversations in person and via teleconference or phone and to hear sounds on production floor including safety warnings or alarms. Required daily.
  • Speaking: able to speak in conversations and meetings, deliver information and participate in communications. Required daily.
  • Equipment Operation: able to operate most office and personal electronic equipment. Required daily.
  • Carrying: able to carry documents, drawings, electronic equipment up to 10lbs. daily
  • Lifting: able to lift documents, drawings, electronic equipment up to 10lbs. daily
  • Pushing / Pulling: able to push and pull small office furniture and some equipment and tools. Rarely required.
  • Sitting: able to sit for long periods of time in meetings, working on computer. Required daily.
  • Squatting / Kneeling: able to squat or kneel to retrieve or replace items stored on low shelving. Required infrequently.
  • Standing: able to stand for discussions in offices. Required daily.
  • Travel: able to travel independently and at short notice. Approximately 5 - 10.
  • Walking: able to walk through office and production areas including uneven surfaces. Required daily.
  • Personal Protective Equipment required: steel toed shoes are required for all shop floor visits; appropriate hearing/eye protection may also be required when visiting the shop floor
  • Administrative position PPE required: Steel-toed shoes are required for all shop floor visit, appropriate hearing/eye protection may also be required when visiting the shop floor.
