Job Description SummaryAs the Next Generation Propulsion (NGP) Fan and Compressor Module Owner in Large Military Engineering, you will be the Technical Team Lead within the cold section for next-generation jet engine designs from preliminary state through fielded introduction. Responsibilities will include fan and compressor module ownership, owning and conducting design reviews for the module, coordination between hardware and supporting roles within the module, and be the technical point of contact for less-experienced engineers. Engineering support includes providing guidance on analytical approaches, giving feedback on design timelines and requirements to get to successful design reviews, review of technical content prior to major tech reviews, guiding changes in design (CIDs) and reviewing CIDs, and supporting proposals for future work. This position will also lead NGP-related module Conceptual, Preliminary, and Detailed Design Reviews, review qualification reports, and serve as the primary point of contact between the NGP customer and the LME Fan and Compressor team.

This position will report directly to the sub-section manager, providing technical leadership to the team, but will not have direct reports.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

  • You will be responsible for leading the team of hardware owners across disciplines within the fan and compressor module with a focus on the NGI-related efforts, primarily focused on the various NGP programs. You will guide the team to handle various priorities that arise with multiple NPI product lines.
  • In leading the team and associated projects, you will drive both cost and schedule, as well as formulating and implementing plans to achieve all commitments. You will own and communicate project status, business issues, and significant developments.
  • This role requires executing with limited guidance the analysis / evaluation of assigned projects that meet business standards, practices and procedures and the product / program requirements. You will develop action plans to anticipate and respond to challenges.
  • As a Staff Engineer, you will to provide technical mentorship to other personnel and assigned teams. In addition, you will participate as a presenter or reviewer in technical and program reviews.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s of Science degree in Mechanical, Aero, or other similar engineering degree from an accredited university or college
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in design engineering

Desired Characteristics

  • 5 years experience in Jet Engine Design Engineering
  • Demonstrated experience and hardware ownership of high pressure compressor (HPC) and fan hardware, including rotors, airfoils, structures, and/or variable geometry systems
  • In-depth understanding of engineering technology and tools such as ANSYS, Siemens NX, and Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing
  • Experience with GE systems such as MRB (material review board), CIDs (change in design), eNMS (non-conformance management system), DRB (design record book), SPS (significant process substantiation), and SIESTA
  • Subject Matter Expert (SME) in airfoils, rotors, or structures
  • Exposure to GE Aerospace standards, processes, products
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, with the ability to concisely communicate complex issues
  • Demonstrated ability to observe system-level issues and lead resolution.
  • Established project management skills
  • Ability to guide and influence others
  • Operational experience working in and managing complex, distributed teams.
