The Boeing Research& Technology (BR&T) India Center established in Bangalore during 2009, conducts research in areas related to improving the technologies and design methods for current and future aerospace products.  Besides doing in-house research, the Center is also partnering with selected Academic Institutions, Government Laboratories and Private Enterprises across India.
The Manufacturing and Material Technology Team within BR&T is focused on discovering, developing, and transitioning new materials and innovative manufacturing technologies into Boeing products and operations. Boeing is a world leader in the design, development and implementation of Nondestructive Evaluation (NDE) and Measurement equipment and processes, building the most advanced systems for inspection of our aircraft both in the factory, and in-service. And, our highly capable engineers excel in a team environment of challenge and opportunity on multiple projects, and partnering with Boeing business units, government customers, global suppliers, and universities to rapidly mature these NDE technologies and systems to operational readiness.
The BR&T India Manufacturing and Materials Technology team is looking for an engineer with a physics, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering or material science degree for our Advanced Inspection Technology (AIT) Engineering group. The position will be located in the Boeing Research and Technology Laboratory, Bangalore, India, and report to the Senior Manager, Materials and Processes.
  • Translate engineering and scientific concepts to practical NDE solutions.
  • Apply knowledge of airplane structure, metallurgy, electricity, chemistry, mechanics, and physics to develop, evaluate, and implement non-destructive systems and testing techniques.
  • Translate engineering requirements into work requirements and tasks.
  • Plan, schedule, and lead others to produce technical work responsive to customer needs within allocated budgets.
  • Contacts customers, teaming partners, subcontractors, and suppliers to exchange technical data and develop new NDE techniques.
  • Manages customer and supplier relationships and participate on teams to develop fundamental approaches used to solve aircraft sustainment issues.
  • Create and maintain detailed documents (e.g., equipment specifications, techniques and training).
  • Interpret and analyze measurement results (including simulation (e.g., modeling, samples) or laboratory analysis) to verify acceptability of detail parts or assemblies from the requesting organization (e.g., Quality Assurance, Fabrication, and Engineering).
  • Act as a consultant for NDE results and recommend additional inspection methods for problem resolution.
  • Performs engineering drawing reviews to ensure that the correct NDE method is used for product acceptance.
  • Supports analysis of failed parts by recommending NDE approaches to determine causes and/or eliminate future failures.
  • Develop NDE equipment and systems, including hardware, software and electronics to support engineering requirements.
  • Develops training manuals and author NDE techniques and procedures
  • Conducts reviews and/or audits of supplier facilities including equipment, processes, NDE results and personnel to ensure that process specifications and quality requirements are met.
  • Must be willing to travel domestically and internationally to provide program support and subject matter expertise of NDE.
Skills Required
  • Complete understanding and ability to apply job practices and techniques pertaining to non-destructive evaluation processes. Able to interpret results against published standards.
  • Complete knowledge and the ability to interpret policies, practices, processes, and procedures, i.e. ISO resources including documentation, as they apply to technical documentation to ensure quality product delivery.
  • Complete ability to read, understand, and interpret basic engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Fully knowledgeable about material processing for metals, polymers and composites
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering with 8 or more years of experience or master's degree with 3 or more years' experience
  • American Society of Non Destructive Testing (ASNT) Level III certification preferably in one of UT, RT, IR NDE methods. Experience and knowledge in Digital Radiography will be an advantage.
  • Knowledge of a wide range of NDE methods (MT, PT, RT, UT, ET, IR).
  • Strong written/oral communications and presentation skills
