Job Description SummaryThe GE Aviation Electrical Power System Engineer is responsible for developing and implementing electrical system topologies of advanced technologies in the Aerospace/Aviation industry. In this role, you will be working with customers and internal commercial/engineering teams with the goal of architecting advanced electrical power systems for the future of Aviation.

At GE Aviation in Dayton, OH the EPISCenter is the headquarters for all of Aviation Power Engineering. At this facility you have an opportunity to put your engineering training and skills to use. Our Engineers are focused and challenged on developing new technologies and delivering state of the art products such as Hybrid Electric aircraft, the latest military platforms, and SiC technology to name a few. Plus, if you like hands-on work, there is also a 155,000 sq ft lab that includes 6 high power test cells totaling 15 MW, an EMI chamber, an electronics lab, a rapid build prototype lab, and a real time simulator lab with all the latest equipment.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Work with customers, internal commercial and engineering component teams to architect electrical power systems for the Aviation/Aerospace industry
  • Coordinate diverse teams to execute system trade studies and analyses
  • Understand and implement latest Aviation industry standards in your work while working to develop new standards for developing technologies
  • Use model based analytical tools to develop and optimize electrical power systems in conjunction with electrical power component engineers
  • Work with various suppliers of both internally and externally sourced electrical power components
  • Develop electrical power system requirements through discussions with internal and external groups such as customers and internal design teams
  • Capture lessons learned and best practices to aid in continuous improvement of system engineering activities
  • Developing working knowledge of competitors architectures and what differentiates them in the market
  • Implement working knowledge of power generation, conversion, and distribution equipment and systems to develop electrical power system architectures
  • Develop detailed technical analyzes and then participate and present in the technical reviews both internally and with customers
  • Support Leadership by reviewing customer requirements and highlighting differences/gaps between those requirements and product capabilities
  • Work with the overall design team both internal and external to test overall electrical power systems and trouble shoot issues
  • Provide technical focus on the strategic business plans

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelors of Science in Electrical Engineering from an accredited college or university
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in an engineering role
  • This role is restricted to U.S. persons (i.e., U.S. citizens, permanent residents, and other protected individuals under the Immigration and Naturalization Act, 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3)) due to access to export-controlled technology.  GE will require proof of status prior to employment.

Desired Characteristics

  • PhD or Master’s in Electrical Engineering from an accredited college or university
  • Previous experience in development of architectures for Aviation Electrical Power Generation, Conversion, and/or Distribution equipment and systems
  • Experience working with external customers and internal commercial teams to develop electrical systems architectures for their applications
  • Experience with system modeling and requirement’s management software tools
  • Experience with high power and high voltage electrical equipment
  • Working knowledge of EMI and compliance to standards
  • Knowledge of aerospace and military standards
  • Experience with new technology (NTI) and new product (NPI) introductions in the topical area of electrical power systems
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
  • US Citizenship

This position may be eligible for the following flexible work arrangements (FWA):

  • Hybrid work schedule available (3 days in the Dayton, OH office; 2 days remote per week)
