SUMMARY:  The Composite Technician works with aircraft parts using oven processes and vacuum techniques and maintain/repair components made of metals and fiberglass.

INTRODUCTION: This mechanic maintains repairs and modifies aircraft structures and structural components of moderate difficulty.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Performs bonding of metallic or nonmetallic materials to fabricate parts and/or for repair applications using products and processes which are varied, but generally not complex in scope.

  • Must read and interpret blueprints, drawings, manuals, specification sketches, job orders, planning documents and engineering drawings. Determines equipment requirements and the method and sequences of operation to be followed in fabrication of parts using materials such as graphite, fiberglass, plastic, epoxy resins, rubber and like materials.

  • Plans, lay-outs, and builds adhesive bonded assemblies of metallic and non-metallic composite materials. Builds composites and metal parts into subassemblies for the purpose of pre-fitting in preparation for bonding, curing in press ovens, and autoclaves.

  • Lay out, pre-fits, assembles, and performs lay-up on a variety of metal-to-metal and composite bonded assemblies. Fits core in where close tolerances are required for installation of details for completion of assembly.

  • Performs vacuum bagging. Lay out and marks dimensions and reference lines on material to develop and trace patterns of product or parts or uses templates.

  • Selects tooling and materials compatible with the processing techniques identified in the work instructions.

  • Execute all required paperwork in connection with assigned normal duties.

  • Use and operate ground support equipment, as applicable and if qualified, in a safe manner.

  • Work with little or no supervision and accomplish assignments with little or no rework.

  • Assist other employees in the performance of their job assignments through coaching, counseling, and guidance.

  • Interface effectively with members of management, other departments, and co-workers.

  • Follow all safety procedures and specifications.

  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment.

  • Perform work within estimated hours.

  • Other duties as assigned.

This position is expected to be 100 onsite.  The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options. Cecil Field Jacksonville FL.

This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship. An interim and/or final U.S. Secret Clearance Post-Start is required.

This position offers relocation based on candidate eligibility.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • 1-2 years of experience working with composites lay-up, fabrication and repair

  • 1+ years of experience conducting manufacturing engineering tasks using any of the following: Work Instructions (WI), Manufacturing Execution System (MES), Model Based Definition, Model Based Instructions processes and procedures

  • 1+ years of experience working in a FAA Repair Station environment

  • Must have a High school diploma or GED

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Have a Valid FAA A&P Certificate or a minimum of 18 months of practical, hands-on maintenance experience to qualify for an FAA Repairman Certificate in the type of maintenance to be performed

  • 4+ years’ experience working in the aviation/airline MRO (Maintenance, Repair & Overhaul) or Asset Management supporting aircraft sustainment business

  • Experience with tools such as test equipment, torque wrenches, dial indicators, micrometers, sheet metal brakes and sheers

  • Experience working with US Air Force or US Navy technical publications or products

  • 1+ years of experience with Aerospace or Aircraft Non-Conformance Record (NCR)

  • 1+ years of experience developing and/or maintaining integrated schedules

Typical Education & Experience:
High school diploma or GED and typically 4+ years related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
