Compensation Data

The compensation range for this position is:

$154,200 - $123,360

Job Summary

The Assistant Project Manager will partner with and assist the project director of a large manufacturing expansion project.  Tasks that may be delegated through the course of the project include basic cost accounting and management of scope, schedule, risk, and communications.  The Assistant Project Manager will coordinate with Industrial Engineering, Facilities, Procurement, Manufacturing Engineering, Operations, Quality Assurance, and Materials and Processes Engineering to ensure the project is on schedule and on budget, managing the scope and risk tightly.
 

Job Responsibilities
  • Exhibit ownership of all assigned tasks.  This may include 
    • Managing project risk (cost, schedule, technical) using GKN- or industry-standard methods.  Working with appropriate teammates to identify risks and appropriate mitigation strategies, assigning actions and monitoring completion according to plan.
    • Managing the project schedule in Microsoft Project software.  This may include consolidating or linking disparate project files that each industrial engineer maintains, or may include owning the overall project file and meeting with project leaders to mature and update the file.
    • Maintaining formal project documentation (project plan, scope changes, meeting minutes, decision log, etc.)
    • Maintaining the financial forecast for the project, with appropriate detail for the internal project team and various summaries for senior level and customer reviews.  Collating the project’s actual expenditure and future planned expenditure from various sources.
    • Monitor and track any project changes, ensuring that additional scope is captured, documented and approved by the applicable functions.
    • Temporarily backfilling other roles during vacation or when positions are open (industrial engineering project managers, project director) to the best of your ability.
  • Report on project progress to customer, involved internal participants, and senior management.
  • Prepared to perform duties outside of direct job description in order to meet Project commitments.
Job Requirements:
Job Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree required. A technical discipline such as Industrial, Manufacturing, Mechanical, Chemical, or Aerospace Engineering or Construction Management is preferred.
  • 5 years of project management experience, including 3 years of experience in a manufacturing environment.  
  • 2 years of experience working with equipment installation and construction trades (electrical, industrial plumbing, concrete, etc.) from a project management perspective.
  • 2 years computer applications, including MS Office Suite, MS Project (or equivalent).
  • U.S. Person per ITAR regulations to comply with export compliance and site SSA requirements

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of Program Management, Risk Management, MS Project and Continuous Improvement.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Construction, large capital project, and aerospace experience. 
  • Experience managing projects in a matrix environment.
  • Energetic and enthusiastic – and portrays these traits openly.
  • Excellent communicator – can sell concepts to people at all levels within & external to the organization, including engineers.
  • Able to see big picture, yet also able to drill down and manage details.
  • Flexible and adaptable to change.
  • Good problem solver.
  • Well organized.
  • Self-starter, self-manager type.
  • Able to multi-task and manage numerous projects easily.
  • Thrives on excellent interaction with people.
