dnata launched Ground Handling services in Netherlands in March 2017, initially commencing passenger handling operations for Onur Air. dnata’s business in Amsterdam now provides passenger, baggage, ramp, and cargo handling services to many major airlines from around the world.



As a Commercial Director, you will report directly to the Managing Director of the Netherlands and will be responsible for the creation and execution of dnata’s Airport Operations commercial strategy within the Netherlands across the primary business verticals cargo handling / passenger ground & ramp / Marhaba airport hospitality. You will also be accountable for revenue performance, growing value and preference from the existing customer portfolio, as well as developing the sales pipeline to support the business’s strategic and financial objectives.


You will Lead a team of commercial professionals, and working in collaboration with regional and HQ teams, will develop pricing and commercial processes which maximise Rol and financial outcomes for the business whilst ensuring dnata Netherlands stands out from the competition and acts on customer demands better than the rest to improve branding of the company within the industry.




In this role, you will


Focus on results



  • Strategy Involvement: Translate business strategy into functional commercial strategies and business goals, lead and direct the commercial department ensuring achievement of objectives.

  • Planning horizon and integration of directions: Maintain an understanding of what is happening across the business and plan commercial activities with an annual plan. Oversee, coordinate, and integrate commercial activities to ensure the achievement of the department / business unit’s objectives.

  • Policy & Procedures: Develop and ensure implementation of business policies, procedures and controls in the commercial function to ensure procedural/legislative requirements are fulfilled.  

  • Financial Management: Accountable for the preparation and consolidation of the commercial department’s budget, monitoring financial performance against set budgets to ensure delivery against the set targets.  

  • Continuous Improvement: Develop pricing and commercial processes and strategies which maximise role and financial outcomes for the business to maximise efficiencies in line with agreed targets.

  • Problem Solving: Effectively balance short term and long-term considerations when dealing with problems relevant to the assigned function / department. Recommend and implement solutions following appropriate consultation with exec leadership. Apply judgement to generate solutions, seek new facts and look beyond previous solutions to business problems.      

  • Governance & Controls: Responsible for ensuring compliance to the required standards as set in ‘The dnata way’ and local legislations are successfully met in all dealings pertaining to the unit/department. 

  • Risk awareness and responsibility: Act in the best interest of the company at all times, ensure business decisions are made based on authority level limits and after the appropriate level of due diligence, risk analysis and consultation/approval of Line Manager have been carried out. 

  • Customers: In collaboration with global strategy, ensure dnata Netherlands as at the forefront of target market minds and ensure dnata’s differentiators are advocated across industry channels. Build and strengthen relationships with clients and external stakeholders to foster revenue growth opportunities.


Focus on people 



  • VMV: Drive the dnata Vision, Mission and Values in the business and models the behaviours and intent of the VMV’s in all people practices. 

  • Managing Performance: Set clear and measurable objectives for direct reports at unit/department level on an annual basis in line with the vision of the top executive leaders. Drives performance accountability and enables the team to achieve through appropriate support and resourcing.

  • Reward & Recognition: Drive a high-performance culture (in line with the ‘The dnata way’ limits) and effectively utilises the organization’s reward and recognition initiatives.

  • Talent Management: Work with local HR to ensure effective Talent Management and Succession Planning are in place to mitigate the risks of skills gaps. 

  • Safety: Lead with safety as a priority, ensuring all decisions are made with safety in mind. Role model safety behaviours and hold direct reports accountable for implementing and maintaining safety policies in the workplace that are in line with dnata’s safety rules and best practice.

  • Behaviour: Act as a role model for the team and wider organisation in all people, customers, and external parties’ interactions. 

Job Requirements:

To be considered for the role, you must meet the below requirements



  • Level of Educational Qualification required Bachelor’s degree level or equivalent

  • Fluent in spoken and written Dutch 

  • 5+ years of experience of aviation business in cargo handling and/ or airport operations

  • Experience of managing a small team of direct reports 

  • Excellent communication skills – both written and verbal and demonstrated ability to communicate and influence both internal and external stakeholders

  • Ability to build and foster strong relationships with customers, suppliers and other key stakeholders in the industry

  • Extensive experience of negotiating complex, long term high value business contracts

  • Experience of drafting contracts and contract law

  • Proficient knowledge in sales methodologies/disciplines

  • Highly numerate with demonstrated ability to analyse and interpret complex financial data

  • Strong negotiation skills and commercial acumen
