Hybrid Role:
This is a hybrid position; you will be required to work at the WestJet Campus in Calgary approximately 2-3 days / week.
Candidates need to be located within Calgary Metropolitan Region.

WestJet has reached an exciting phase of recovery from the global pandemic as the Group looks to significantly expand its capacity over the next five years. This will require discipline to ensure we continue to deliver safe, reliable, and friendly air travel to our Guests, at a cost profile that remains strongly competitive in our aviation industry. WestJet will achieve our affordable travel offering through a simplification of the operating model and continuous improvement of productivity and efficiency of all operational spend.

We have identified the need to create the role of Director, Continuous Improvement to serve as the corporate cost improvement expert. As the pace of growth quickens and the need for efficiency and structure becomes a necessity, this individual will act as a strategist, consultant and implementer and work with senior leaders across all business units.

The Director will be a champion for continuous improvement and low-cost mindset throughout the organization, inspiring others to collaborate and look to continuously improve upon past processes and activities.
 

Responsibilities:
Reporting to: Senior Vice President Finance & Deputy CFO, the Director will:
 

Continuous Improvement
• Using Lean methodology and analytics, accomplish measurable significant business process improvements.
• Diagnose areas of opportunities for improvements in expenditures across the Group.
• Partner with the organization to perform analysis, evaluation and planning of key projects to help companies achieve its cost goals.
• Monitor in year spend cross functionally in accordance with budget and corporate policy.

Reporting
• Lead the reporting of the Continuous Improvement program which includes tracking of initiatives, measurements of savings and monthly reporting.
• Develop registrar of corporate-wide initiatives and routinely engage with departmental owners.
• Categorize initiative savings into various sub-segments of lifecycle timing (Idea, Evaluation, Implementation and Complete) and type of savings (Cost Reduction, Cost Avoidance and Revenue Generation) to ensure corporate commitment and action.

Leadership & Influence
• Provide leadership to the organization in our quest for cost conscious culture. Serve as a change agent enabling ongoing culture change, characterized by disciplined execution and accountability.
• Forge a successful relationship and partner with business leaders to assess current processes, identify process improvement opportunities and to prioritize areas of focus.
• Partner with Communications department in developing reporting on Cost Optimization to WestJetter’s.
• Recruit, develop & support top talent within the organization. Take an active role in ongoing employee development, providing robust coaching and mentoring.


Qualifications:
• 15 years of relevant lean or financial leadership experience
• Master’s degree or professional designation in Business, Commerce, Engineering or Lean certifications is required
• Desire and ability to make a significant impact, both by playing a strategic role and when necessary, taking a “roll-up-your-sleeves” attitude to make things happen.
• Demonstrated change mindset with the ability to see the big picture.
• Strong communication, analytical and interpersonal skills with the ability to organize and prioritize work to meet deadlines and handle multiple projects.
• A positive, “can-do” attitude, inquisitive style and customer focused approach in order to deal with challenging situations with integrity, empathy and sincerity.
• Highly motivated, energetic, and goal-oriented with the ability to work in a truly fast paced, team-oriented environment.
• Exceptional verbal and written communications skills.
• Ability to travel as required; within Canada up to 20 of time.
