Position Summary

The Manager Health and Safety Programs, with delegated authority from the Vice President (VP) Safety, will assist the Director Safety Standards and Oversight with health and safety documentation and compliance (audit findings/closures, industrial hygiene reports, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) station visits, Department of Labor (DOL)/OSHA data request and ground safety investigations).  The Manager will assist the Director in managing and implementing the investigation protocol for occupational injuries, illness and ground safety incidents across work groups. The Manager will be responsible for analyzing and trending OSHA Recordable injury data and ground safety performance data to generate rates and goals for operational groups as well as working to reduce injury rates and ground damages. 

 

Essential Responsibilities

  • Assist Director Safety Standards and Oversight with oversight of health and safety programs contained within but not limited to the Crewmember Health and Safety Manual including (but not limited to) emergency evacuation plans, hazard communication, bloodborne pathogens, respiratory protection, fall protection, injury and illness prevention program (IIPP), and workplace hazard assessment (WHA) based on federal and state regulations
  • Maintain Pandemic and Communicable Disease Protocol and OSHA Complaint and Visit responses
  • Investigate occupational injury and illnesses per the investigation protocol including working with operational groups in fact finding, analysis, interviewing and reviewing of processes in order to develop mitigation strategies to reduce injury rates
  • Manage the Ground Safety Program
  • Document and track investigations in JetBlue’s data management system, JEMS, including documenting corrective actions to closure
  • Develop and maintain OSHA recordable injury metrics and trends for all work groups. Provide trends and statistics to operational groups and senior leadership for comparison and goal making. Provide data to Airlines for America (A4A), OSHA, and DOL
  • Manage required vaccination requirements for international start up
  • Oversee successful implementation of the hearing conservation program
  • Ensure adherence to all Safety and Security regulations
  • Take a significant role in the development of crewmembers to support their engagement, growth, and goal achievement 
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a Safety/Science or Business related field; OR demonstrated capability to perform job responsibilities with a High School Diploma/GED and at least four (4) years of previous relevant work experience
  • Five (5) years of experience in a health and safety field/department in any industry
  • Thorough knowledge of General Industry Health and Safety (OSHA) regulations
  • Safety Data Analytical experience
  • Safety investigation experience
  • Ground Operations experience
  • Excellent oral and written English language skills
  • Proficient in all Microsoft Office
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work under stress in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment
  • Ability to interface well with Crewmembers at all levels of the company
  • Ability to acquire and analyze data through independent research, interviews with subject matter specialists, or other appropriate methods
  • Available for occasional overnight travel (10%)
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug test
  • Must be legally eligible to work in the country in which the position is located
  • Authorization to work in the US is required. This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship

 

Preferred Experience and Qualifications

  • Two (2) years’ experience managing a health and safety program
  • OSHA 30 hour or 501Traing for Industry Certification
  • Aviation Safety experience

  • Potential need to work flexible hours and be available to respond on short-notice
  • Able to maintain a professional appearance
  • When working or traveling on JetBlue flights, and if time permits, all capable crewmembers are asked to assist with light cleaning of the aircraft

  • Identify safety and/or security concerns, issues, incidents or hazards that should be reported and report them whenever possible and by any means necessary including JetBlue’s confidential reporting systems (Aviation Safety Action Program (ASAP) or Safety Action Report (SAR)
  • Responsible for adhering to all applicable laws, regulations (FAA, OSHA, DOT, etc.) and Company Safety and Security policies, procedures and risk controls
  • Uphold JetBlue’s safety performance metric goals and understand how they relate to their duties and responsibilities

Compensation: 

  • The base pay range for this position is between $81,000.00 and $136,200.00 per year. Base pay is one component of JetBlue’s total compensation package, which may also include performance bonuses, restricted stock units, as well as access to healthcare benefits, a 401(k) plan and company match, crewmember stock purchase plan, short-term and long-term disability coverage, basic life insurance, free space available travel on JetBlue, and more.
