Position Summary:
The Production Supervisor is responsible for managing the production responsibilities in accordance with the direction and guidance from the Director of Operations. The position requires extensive knowledge and experience in all phases of machining processes, part identification, and traceability, material handling practices, production planning/routing, tooling, machine and facilities maintenance, and environmental health and safety policies. The Production Supervisor will have responsibility to ensure short and long term financial and operational related goals and objectives are achieved, as well as, ensure goals and objectives are met in accordance with local, divisional, or corporate initiatives and directives. The Production Supervisor is also responsible to ensure the continuous improvement of all facets within the department, which include, but are not limited to: training, resources, production, and quality.
Reporting Relationships:
The Production Supervisor will report to the Operations Director.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
Primary Functional responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Understand, adhere, and demonstrate to the company’s commitment to QUALITY and SAFETY!
- Manage direct reports; Establish schedule, quality, and cost targets for the group; Delegate, as necessary, to leads and direct reports to accomplish goals.
- Reinforce and champion the idea and culture of continuous improvement and motivate ideas for pipeline improvement projects.
- Manage to the strengths and weaknesses of direct reports and provide opportunities for training and cross-training in positions.
- Manage the production schedule versus labor needed on a daily basis.
- Partner with Quality to ensure products are manufactured according to requirements and specifications, as well as, adhering to Quality Manual and AS9100 Rev C requirements.
- Partner with HR and direct reports to resolve problems, complaints or grievances, and to plan and forecast staffing.
- Drive Lean Manufacturing Six Sigma initiatives throughout the shop.
- Partner with Program Management and Production Control to ensure commitments are met for product delivery.
- Ensure all production operations are planned and completed in accordance with customer engineering design.
- Ensure the establishment and enforcement of company policy as it applies to the detection and removal of foreign objects (FOD).
- Ensure production documentation includes the required tools and specific operator instructions associated with their use.
- Report daily on Safety, Quality, Throughput and Cost Metrics.
- May occasionally perform special projects, such as Continuous Improvement Pipeline projects.
- Maintaining regular and punctual attendance according to shift-times or a pre-arranged work schedule.
- Perform other duties, as assigned.
Required Skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, and Power Point); Knowledge in Microsoft Project is helpful, but not required.
- Well-developed verbal and written communication, collaboration, and time management skills.
- Demonstrates prioritization and planning skills.
- Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality controls, and costs.
- Understand/use techniques for effective control of quality, cost, and scheduling.
- Knowledge and ability to utilize and instruct in the utilization of conventional, N/C and CNC program machine setups including required mill fixture and cutter programs.
- Knowledge of machines, tools, and tooling including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
- Knowledge of ERP and similar production management systems.
- Knowledge of management principles involved in strategic planning and forecasting including people, material, and equipment resource allocation; corporate and human resource policies and benefits; leadership and teaming; and production methods.
- Knowledge and familiarity with Six Sigma and lean manufacturing work area practices is preferred, including 5-S, Visual Controls, Standard Work, work center metrics, and continuous improvement processes and able to instruct others in these practices.
- Ability to motivate, develop, and direct people as they work, while identifying the best people for the job.
Required Experience
5+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment
2+ years of experience in a leadership role preferred.
Level of Education
Bachelor’s Degree Preferred
