Hybrid Role:
This is a hybrid position; you will be required to work at the WestJet Campus in Calgary approximately 2 days / week.

As a Program Manager- Environmental Services, you will develop, implement, manage and ensure continuous improvement of the WestJet Group’s Environmental Management System.  You will ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and industry best practices through interpretation of legislation and guidelines, interacting with provincial, national and international regulators and enforcement of policy through regular audits of operations across the WestJet Group of companies.

You thrive in an environment of actively managing work, informal authority and you are adept at leveraging relationships and influencing stakeholders at all levels in the organization. You are a master problem-solver and can facilitate conflict towards a win-win outcome with little-to-no formal escalation. As the ideal candidate for this role, you have developed exceptional communication skills, and are a gifted facilitator. You are passionate about what you do and meet your commitments producing high quality work with little to no oversight required.

Key deliverables include:

  • The development and maintenance of full-spectrum environmental processes and programs to support WestJet’s global operations
  • The conduct of regular environmental audits to ensure compliance with the applicable environmental regulations, the corporate environmental management system (EMS) policies, and addressing findings and observations from internal and external reviews.
  • The design, updating, and deliverance of environmental policy communications and training.
  • To satisfy regulatory requirements, the maintenance of accurate EMS information, documentation and compliance and performance reports
  • The conduct of incident investigations (spills) and environmental risk reports.
  • Ensure that projects and programs are proceeding to plan according to committed scope, schedule, budget and quality standards through rigorous baseline control
  • Participate and/or drive feasibility studies, vendor selections and proposals for evaluation with project team
  • Manage issues and risks to mitigate impacts to project
  • Effectively collaborate with cross-functional, cross-organization teams to negotiate and integrate project plans, secure commitments on deliverables, and resolve blocking issues
  • Identify, track and manage project dependencies to ensure optimal utilization of resources, ongoing risk identification and timely benefits realization on the project level
  • Cultivate relationships to provide project leadership and communicate vision and strategy in a highly matrix environment
  • Identify stakeholders and manage at varying levels within the organization, tailoring your style and approach to meet their needs, both in-person and remote
  • Communicate at various levels, from senior business stakeholders to subject matter experts (business and technology) in designing and developing solutions to meet business needs
  • Work with the business or cross-functional team to clarify problem statements. Apply methodical problem-solving, critical thinking and root cause analysis to dissect complex issues into logical components. Generate, evaluate, and implement possible solutions and monitor outcomes
  • Expertly facilitate cross-functional workshops to support problem-solving and able to clearly document the current state environment and create appropriate future state representation processes and artifacts
  • Organize and present project information in a comprehensive manner that is appropriate for the audience and the situation, including Executive-level reporting
  • Mentor, coach and support junior members of the team.

Experience and qualifications:

  • 5+ years’ experience in an environmental capacity with a focus on compliance related activities.
  • A University degree, masters or advanced degree in Environmental Sciences. An equivalent combination of education, training and experience will be considered.  
  • Environmental management systems certification (ISO 14001) and auditing (ISO 19011) preferred but not required.
  • Proficiency in MS Office product suite, and MS Project
