Job Summary

The Senior Manager Experience Design invests in the future of Southwests People by leading a mid-sized Design Team of designers, strategists, operators, and researchers who are responsible for the development of AI and automation solutions through the use of innovation and human-centered design capabilities across the Company. In addition, this People Leader will collaborate with various teams, including AI Delivery, Data Scientists, Technology, and Facilities, to translate user-centric insights into actionable AI features and functionalities, ensuring that the resulting solutions align with both user desirability and technical feasibility. The Senior Manager Experience Design is an innovative problem-solver who is excited to use their technical expertise to develop solutions and recommendations for our business partners while driving the future of Southwest.

This role is a hybrid position based out of our Corporate Campus in Dallas, TX, which requires Employees to work at a Company facility at least three days a week. Responsibilities
Coach and guide a team of problem solvers by embracing both ambiguity and curiosity and lending technical expertise across the modes of design including research, design, development and storytelling
Lead problem discovery and behavioral research function that discovers the "whys" behind problems using ethnographic methods such as observation and find pertinent insights to identify opportunity areas for designing new solutions
Create differentiated points of view in evaluating a problem and potential solutions and be a champion for centering design around user needs
Evaluate and stay abreast of macro business, technology, environmental and human behavior trends in order to guide research and ideation
Advocate for the business value of design and work with business partners to understand the outcomes expected from design work along with dependencies and impacts of projects to the greater Company
Collaborate in a team-based environment with leads from multi-disciplinary units such as AI delivery / data scientists, technology and functional business units
Develop transition plans and protocols to ensure seamless hand-offs from an innovation prototype to the business for broader deployment
May perform other job duties as directed by Employee&39;s Leaders
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Advanced knowledge of Human Centered Design and Innovation mindsets, tools and techniques
Skilled in behavioral research practices
Skilled in facilitating concepting sessions and prototyping
Skilled in strategic thinking, problem solving and connecting disparate dots to see beyond todays activities
Skilled in building and managing relationships across a large organization
Ability to discern underlying human needs and actionable insights from research
Ability to articulate a compelling story and deliver impactful presentations to gain alignment
Ability to coach, inspire and direct a team toward a common purpose and set a clear direction by casting a vision, creating action plans and delegating responsibilities
Ability to use Microsoft Office Suite
Education
Required: High School Diploma or GED
Required: Undergraduate or Graduate level degree in a research driven field such as social sciences or design field such as Industrial, Visual, Experience, Technology or Service designs
Experience
Demonstrated experience in directly or indirectly leading team(s)
Fully functioning, broad knowledge in:
Preferred: Experience with AI/automation (traditional and generative), digital design experience, design thinking/human-centered design, and Figma
Physical Abilities
Ability to perform work duties from [limited space work station/desk/office area] for extended periods of time
Ability to communicate and interact with others in the English language to meet the demands of the job
Ability to use a computer and other office productivity tools with sufficient speed and accuracy to meet the demands of the job
Other Qualifications
Must maintain a well-groomed appearance per Company appearance standards as described in established guidelines
Must be a U.S. citizen or have authorization to work in the United States as defined by the Immigration Reform Act of 1986
Must be at least 18 years of age
Must be able to comply with Company attendance standards as described in established guidelines
Pay & Benefits:
Competitive market salary from $158,950 per year to $176,600 per year* depending on qualifications and experience. For eligible Leadership and individual contributor roles, additional bonus opportunities are available and awarded at the discretion of the company.
