Summary and Objective

The Tax Manager plays an important role in ensuring compliance with tax laws and regulations while optimizing the organizations tax position. Reporting to the Tax Director, the Tax Manager is responsible for overseeing compliance, and reporting. The Tax Manager also provides guidance on tax implications for various business decisions and transactions. This role requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and knowledge of tax laws and regulations.

Tax Planning:

  • Develop tax strategies to minimize the organizations tax liabilities while ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Analyze financial data to identify tax planning opportunities and risks.
  • Coordinate with internal stakeholders to implement tax-efficient structures for business transactions.

Tax Compliance:

  • Prepare and file tax returns accurately and timely, including income tax, sales tax, excise tax and other relevant taxes.
  • Stay abreast of changes in tax laws and regulations and ensure compliance with new requirements.
  • Respond to tax notices and inquiries from tax authorities and resolve any issues that may arise.

Tax Reporting:

  • Prepare tax provisions ASC 740 and related financial statements in accordance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles).
  • Assist with the preparation of tax disclosures for financial reporting purposes.
  • Coordinate with external auditors to provide support for tax-related matters during audits.

Tax Research and Analysis:

  • Conduct research on complex tax issues and provide recommendations to management.
  • Interpret tax laws and regulations to assess their impact on the organizations operations and transactions.
  • Monitor legislative and regulatory changes and evaluate their potential effects on the organizations tax position.

Tax Risk Management:

  • Identify and assess tax risks associated with the organizations operations and transactions.
  • Implement controls and procedures to mitigate tax risks and ensure compliance with internal policies and procedures.
  • Provide guidance to internal stakeholders on tax risk management best practices.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Working knowledge of income tax accounting, tax laws and regulations.
  • Knowledge of documentation requirements for internal controls over financial reporting.
  • Ability to assist in research and communicate technical tax issues and prepare and maintain relevant and organized work papers and files.
  • Demonstrated strategic influence skills, tactical planning skills, time management skills and conflict resolution skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to communicate/collaborate effectively with all levels of staff, management, executives and external organizations.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the Microsoft Office - Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure in a changing environment and manage multiple projects with short deadlines.
  • Ability and experience to effectively gather, assess, analyze information for tax audit purposes

Job Requirements:

Required education and experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or advanced degree (e.g., MST) preferred.
  • 5+ years of progressive experience in tax planning, compliance, and reporting, preferably in a corporate tax department or public accounting firm.
  • Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local tax laws and regulations.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to effectively communicate complex tax concepts to non-tax professionals.
  • Proficiency in tax software and Microsoft Excel.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
  • Commitment to continuous learning and staying current with developments in tax laws and regulations.
