POSITION SUMMARY

Adapt Cost Engineering market best practices (ex. Automotive) to the Aerospace industry unique constraints, including specific product requirements, complex interfaces and part assemblies, high unit price, and relatively low level of standardization.

Consolidate and expand Cost Engineering as being a key area to achieve cost & market competitivity in the aerospace segment, since its relatively new area in this industry (<10 years).

Develop a cost-oriented culture throughout all the areas and processes of the company embedding this state of mind as a continuous practice and permanent process throughout Embraer. Enhance cost and market competitiveness for products and services being aligned with the company strategic objectives and culture.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Identify and make recommendations for supplier opportunities for operational improvements and cost efficiencies.
  • Enhance a systematic and organized approach and methodology to identify gaps and cost efficiency opportunities
  • Participate “In loco” at the supplier site to build expertise regarding manufacturing, product, purchasing and supply chain processes. Seek industrial and footprint opportunities by optimizing product specifications, improve manufacturing processes and assembly methods
  • Develop design-to-cost and design-to-value initiatives globally (focus USA & Europe) seeking optimization of Market opportunities and Financial results
  • Achieve annual financial cost reduction targets contributing to product sales competitivity, margin improvements, lower SG&A costs and consequently improved EBITDA results
  • Elaborate Make versus Buy analysis working with cross-functional areas, Business Units, Manufacturing footprint and Embraer strategy to improve product cost and reliability
  • Provides guidance and training/mentoring on internal business processes related to their functional area of expertise for more junior professionals within their own group.
  • Drive processes around ideal cost estimation and target settings. Provide Purchasing and Finance with Corporate targets for negotiations and budgeting process
  • Provide cost visibility for Engineering to reduce development and modification costs, optimize communization, inventories and increase Purchasing leverage
  • Other Ad-hoc requests on complex and technical business matters that require high levels of independent judgement and discretion, commensurate with greater years of experience in the required field of discipline.
  • Will sometimes act as a project lead for a work group within their specific function as needed.
  • Participate and at times lead process improvement projects as required

Education:

  • BS/MS degree in relevant technical and business discipline (Engineering / Business Administration)
  • Financial or Business Development programs/courses are highly recommended
  • Professional knowledge of project management methods

Experience:

  • Extensive experience in competitive markets in companies which are references in their segment
  • 4 to 5 years of experience working for a technology type company (e.g., consumer durables, aerospace, automotive, capital goods or consulting type role) in product development, procurement, supply chain or related functions (product marketing, development, innovation, manufacturing engineering)
  • Experience in Finance and Business Development activities (desired)

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Proficient to work under pressure in adverse situations with little information & lack of clear directions but that requires alignment and quick decision making
  • Extensive experience in managing teams locally and off-site
  • Needs to demonstrate strong networking, communication and presentation skills, as the ability to deploy cost engineering effectively and to get stakeholders to embed these practices will be critical to long term capability building.
  • Broad business knowledge to manage interactions between business disciplines
  • Strong leadership skills to drive change and challenge organization
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills
