Job Description:

The Aviation Department at the University of Central Missouri is seeking a Chief Flight Instructor/Assistant Professor.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership for the UCM cadre of Certified Flight Instructors.
  • Assure compliance with Training Course Outlines (TCO’s).
  • Assure that students obtain the pilot certifications as required to fulfill graduation requirements.
  • Assist in operating the flight program in a cost-effective manner.
  • Meet and maintain all specified FAA requirements for a Chief Flight Instructor per applicable regulations.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between Flight Operations and the FAA.
  • Assure compliance with all applicable FAA/TSA related regulations.
  • Assist in hiring personnel, issuing grades, maintaining required records, assist in aircraft procurement.

Education/Formal Training

  • Master’s degree in Aviation, Education, Safety, Management, or related field.
  • Current FAA Pilot Certificates: Commercial SE/ME, Instrument Rating, CFI-I, MEI,
  • Meet/maintain applicable recent flight experience requirements.
  • Meet/maintain all applicable FAA requirements for the Chief Flight Instructor position for all certificate programs offered under the UCM 14 CFR Part 141 certificate.

Preferred:

  • Airline Transport Certificate (ATP)
  • Education may be substituted with significant experience as a professional pilot or military pilot-(at least six years experience).

Experience

  • Meet all applicable Chief Flight Instructor requirements under 14 CFR Part 141.35:
  • 2,000 hours PIC.
  • Three years experience as an FAA Certified Flight Instructor-1,000 hours dual given.
  • Two years experience as an FAA Certified Instrument Instructor-250 hours dual given.
  • One year minimum experience as a ground school instructor at a certified pilot school.

Additional Skills/Abilities

  • Attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Knowledge of the University environment is preferred.
  • Organizational skills.
  • Meeting facilitation/leadership.
  • Ability to facilitate and move multiple/simultaneous projects to completion and meet deadlines.
