Job Description:

The Chief Flight Instructor Pilot will be a 12-month, non-tenure-track employee providing flight instruction and oversight as required keeping flight students progressing through their flight syllabi. The ideal candidate for this position will have the educational and aviation background to teach any of the FAA certification courses in the Aviation – concentration Professional Pilot curriculum, experienced in practical flight instruction, and classroom teaching experience.

The individual will be expected to be responsible for management of the following:

  • Oversee and manage the instruction of undergraduate student-pilots.
  • Oversee and manage the duties and responsibilities performed by the full-time instructor staff (incl. Assistant Chief Flight Instructors), part-time Flight Instructors, Check Airmen, and student-Flight Instructors.
  • Ability to conduct flight training for all certifications.
  • Ability to conduct stage checks for all certifications.
  • Ability to conduct FAA Practical Examinations within the authorized self-examining authority for Private Pilot, Instrument, Commercial, and Multi-Engine certifications.
  • Primary liaison between the local FSDO and the Aviation Program.
  • Chief of the Course for all flight certification labs, responsible for issuing academic grades on all concentration Professional Pilot students.
  • This position reports to the Director of Aviation Programs.
Job Requirements:
  • Possess a bachelor’s degree in aviation required or equivalent aviation flight training experience.
  • Hold ASMEL Certificates.
  • Current CFI Certificate for Airplane, Instrument, and Multi-engine.
  • Meet PIC recent flight experience requirements of FAR Part 61.57.
  • Meet the requirements of FAR Part 141.36.
  • Administrative or managerial experience in aviation related activity.
  • Solid oral and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications Standards:

  • Hold a master’s degree or higher.
  • Possess an ATP.
  • Three (3) years of experience or more working in a Part 141 aviation program.
  • Three (3) years of experience or more working in a University/Collegiate flight training program with self-examining authority.
  • Experience as a DPE.
