POSITION DESCRIPTION: Performs, in addition to regular duties, all the duties of the Aviation Airframe and Powerplant Technician and is the normal relief for the respective Lead Technician of Unit when the vacation or work schedule requires it. Receives assignments and instructions verbally or in writing from Foremen or Lead Technicians and gives work direction to Aviation Airframe and Power Plant Technicians in addition to performing periodic inspections, maintenance, repair and testing of all aircraft systems, ground support equipment and systems test equipment. Conducts on-the-job training of junior personnel, instructing them in approved procedures and proper handling of tools and equipment, stressing safe work practices and good housekeeping. Reviews current graphs, charts, diagrams, bulletins, manuals and memoranda required to perform unusual work, to solve unusual problems or to determine current tolerances, methods or standards. Keeps abreast of maintenance methods, standards, and specifications by reading bulletins, manuals, regulations and aeronautical technical data. Inspects completed work done by lower classified Aircraft Maintenance personnel and certifies job as to airworthiness as required by U.S. Federal Aviation Administration. Performs, in the interest of economy and efficiency, other similar and lesser duties as assigned which are essential to complete the work and are within the ability and skill of the employee. Performs maintenance at outlying locations, e.g., Exploration Base Camps, as required. SELECTION CRITERIA: Certification from a specialized vocational training school or 30 months FAA certified on-the-job training. Valid U.S. FAA licenses for airframe and powerplant. Eleven (11) years of experience and currently employed as a Licensed Airframe and Powerplant Technician performing hangar or heavy check maintenance. Good command of oral and written English; colloquial Arabic highly desirable.
