Job Description
Key Accountabilities:
- Assesses and identifies electrical power requirements for ANS facilities to ensure reliable and continuous service.
- Takes part in developing and drafting documents associated with the approval, planning, design and acquisition of electrical systems assigned to the incumbent to achieve a high level of quality and reliability and protect the investment.
- Develops and drafts documents associated with the acceptance, maintenance and modification of electrical systems assigned to the incumbent to achieve a high level of quality, reliability and protect the investment.
- Ensures compliance with regulations and standards associated with electrical facilities for user safety.
- Investigates the circumstances surrounding and causes of major incidents as well as complex issues in the electrical field and produces a report to correct the situation and avoid recurrence.
- Identifies training requirements for facility and maintenance personnel to foster the quality and appropriateness of the work done.
Education/Occupational Certification:
- The incumbent must have valid certification as an electrical journeyman.
Experience:
- Experience assessing the condition of electrical facilities and coordinating proposals regarding equipment maintenance and/or replacement.
- Experience associated with design and operating requirements as well as establishing and resolving tricky operational issues relating to electrical systems.
Knowledge:
- Knowledge acquired through an electrical technologist course at a technological institute, on-the-job training and the experience acquired with the specialized systems used within the ANS.
- Strong knowledge of the Canadian Electrical Code.
- Strong knowledge of the principles, practices and status of electrical technology related to the life-cycle management of electrical systems at ANS facilities.
- Knowledge of the principles of financial management, maintenance and personnel cost assessment and management.
- Understanding of emergency / reserve power supply strategies, technical possibilities and maintenance requirements.
Abilities:
- Ability to read diagrams and produce single-line diagrams.
- Relying on in-depth knowledge of the field, the incumbent provides technical support in the form of advice and / or directives to various stakeholders (consultants, manufacturers, installers, maintenance personnel, contractors, project managers) to clarify, specify and resolve ambiguous situations.

- This position is based at Ottawa TSC but may be eligible for a flexible work arrangement.
