Ground Operations Compliance Specialist

Your role

Reporting to the Manager Ground Compliance & Service Delivery, the Compliance Specialist will assist and support the Self Handling Airports (DUB, ORK, SNN) and Network Airports to ensure that all areas of Ground Operations are compliant with all necessary regulatory standards and the Aer Lingus Ground Operations Manual (GOM). They will assist with compliance audits from IAG 3rd party handling and represent ground ops in cross departmental projects.


The Compliance Specialist shall also implement the internal inspection program across all Airports and will be the central point for all data collection from these inspections and will develop a suite of management reports detailing the level of compliance as a measurement from the internal audits.
Additionally, they will manage all Ground Operations, Central Compliance, IATA Operational Safety Audit (IOSA), Irish Aviation Authority (IAA), or 3rd party airline audit preparation, ensure Ground Operations meets all its regulatory requirements and act as an Aer Lingus representative during these audits.

Your responsibilities as a Ground Operations Compliance Specialist will include:

  • Ensure adherence to EASA basic regulations and Statutory Instruments.
  • Maintain procedures for safe and efficient ground operations and with 3rd party handling partners.
  • Review and update the Ground Operations Manual to adopt newly released IGOM industry standards.
  •  Act as a key stakeholder in managing and developing operational alliances and joint ventures.
  • Assist with compliance audits from IAG 3rd party handling.
  • Participate, and administer Ground Operations technical group meetings, and implement agreed procedures.
  • Prepare, issue, and distribute Ground Handling Instructions, Bulletins, Safety Alerts, and Station Notices.
  • Develop and implement methods for staff to acknowledge updates and notices.
  • Liaise with Central Ground Operations on compliance issues.
  •  Implement an internal inspection program for each Self Handling Airport.
  • Develop management statistics and compliance reports from internal audits.
  • Assist in developing and implementing Corrective Action Plans for audit findings.
  • Ensure all documentation across Self Handling Airports is up to date and version controlled.
  • Liaise with the Training Manager to ensure training courses comply with changes in the GOM.
  •  Assist Network Training team with the implementation of new/ updated training programmes in line with Aer Lingus’ service delivery programmes.
  • Undertake station visits, as required, to ensure that service delivery standards are implemented and compliant
  • Assist with safety investigations, departmental projects, and any other related issues as they arise.

Your qualifications and key criteria

We are looking for an individual with experience / qualifications in the following areas:

  • 5 Years experience in Ground Operations, with knowledge of all roles documented in the Aer Lingus Ground Operations Manual.
  • Detailed knowledge of the Aer Lingus Ground Operations Manual.
  • Experience in drafting operational documentation, version control and technical writing.
  • Ability to communicate new procedures and processes in a format that can be understood and implemented by parties within Aer Lingus Ground Operations, other departmental areas in Aer Lingus and by external 3rd Party Handling Partners.
  • Sound Knowledge of EASA basic regulations, IATA AHM, IGOM, IATA and their safety audit programmes.
  • Ability to take the initiative; be flexible and creative in producing high-quality documentation.
  • Strong analytical, oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to lead and influence people and functions.
  • In-depth knowledge of the Arconics online portal with the skills required to manage, update and publish the Ground Operations Manual.
  • Excellent skills in mobile programs such as iAuditor, Numbers and other mobile applications.
  • Ability to prioritise and work under pressure and to strict deadlines.
  • Good planning & organisational skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Proven ability to work on own initiative as well as being an effective team player.
  • Good communication skills both written and verbal with a proven ability to present facts clearly and objectively.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build and maintain positive working relationships.
  • Flexible and adaptable, with a passion for continuous improvement in an ever changing environment.
  • Excellent punctuality and attendance record.
  • Ability to work with computer applications.
  • Fluent in English, both spoken and written.
  • Eligible to live and work in the Republic of Ireland without restriction.
  • Able to provide details of 2 verifiable references.
  • Able to pass a 5 – year security background check*(or be in possession of a current airside pass for the airport this position is based in Dublin).
  • Prepared to complete a medical questionnaire and medical examination.
  • Hold a current unrestricted worldwide passport.

Desirable criteria

Working knowledge of mobile programs such as iAuditor or Realtime Knowledge.com and Degree in Business, Aviation Management, Project Management, Communications or equivalent experience.
Training and Instructor experience - Train the Trainer qualification.
Experience in joint ventures or other cross-company engagements.
