Role Summary

The Powerplant Planner is responsible for developing and managing the complex engine powerplant planning at Alaska Airlines (AS) and Hawaiian Airlines (HA). As an individual contributor, this role exercises considerable judgment to make decisions in forecasting model and managing third party suppliers in delivery of engine maintenance services and provides recommendations to address business challenges or problems in the area of expertise

Key Duties

Powerplant Planner (P2)

  • This individual contributor supports the development of the engine maintenance plan and manages communications with both internal and external resources to ensure the safe and compliant delivery of engine maintenance services.

  • Develop both tactical and mid-range plans for scheduled engine removals and effective utilization of spare engines.

  • Facilitate communication and coordination with leasing entities regarding reporting of lease engine utilization.

  • Manage the execution of engine programs for the year, tracking performance and operational effectiveness.

  • Facilitate communication and coordination of planned engine removals with Powerplant Engineering, Line and Vendor Maintenance, Engine Build-Up Shop, and Stores.

  • Plan and schedule high risk borescopes, inspections, and other time-controlled engine events.

  • Administer the scheduling of Engineering Controls (ECs), Airworthiness Directives, and Technical Service Requests (TSRs) for engines.

  • Initiates EBU Shop work orders and line work orders.

  • Develop reports as required for the ongoing management of the maintenance program.

  • Maintain knowledge of TRAX functions as they pertain to the planning environment and maintain updated forecasts.

  • Support Fleet Changes, Lease Returns, Aircraft Acquisitions and Sales as required.

  • Review availability of critical parts needed to support the Engine Plan or Engine events.

  • With limited direction from the Senior Powerplant Planner, advise of any issues that may impact safety, compliance, or operational disruptions.

  • Takes initiative to develop solutions to support process improvement and quality opportunities.

  • Other duties as assigned by the Director Engine Maintenance

Senior Powerplant Planner (P3)

  • This individual contributor guarantees the development of the comprehensive engine maintenance plan. Manage communications with both internal and external resources to ensure the safe and compliant delivery of engine maintenance services.

  • Develops both tactical and long-range plans for scheduled engine removals, effective utilization of spare engines and Auxiliary Power Units (APUs).

  • Manages the execution of engine plans for the year tracking plan performance and operational effectiveness.

  • Manages planned engine removals, Powerplant Engineering, Line and Vendor Maintenance, Engine Build-Up Shop, and Stores.

  • Plans and schedules borescopes, inspections, and other time-controlled engine events.

  • Administers the scheduling of Engineering Controls (ECs), Airworthiness Directives, and Technical Service Requests (TSRs) for engines and APUs.

  • Establishes the priority for the EBU shop workload on task card completion and the build-up of AS or leased engines and APUs, ensuring planning is determined for removal and return.

  • Develops reports as required for the ongoing management of the maintenance program.

  • Maintains knowledge of TRAX functions as they pertain to the planning environment and maintain and update forecasts in respect to the duty assignment.

Job-Specific Experience, Education & Skills

Intermediate Level

Required

  • A minimum 2 years experience in maintenance planning.

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field, or an additional two years of training/experience in lieu of degree.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.

  • Minimum age of 18.

  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.

Preferred

  • Experience using TRAX, Tableau, or other data management tools.

  • Airframe & Powerplant certificate.

Senior Level

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field, or an additional two years of training/experience in lieu of degree.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Salary Range

$74,400-$142,600 / year

Pay Details

Intermediate level: $74,400 - $111,600

Senior level: $95,000 - $142,600

Salary Details

Pay will be based on multiple factors, including and not limited to location, relevant experience/level and skillset while balancing internal equity relative to other Alaska/Horizon employees. Alaska/Horizon is committed to fair, unbiased compensation along with competitive benefits in all locations in which we operate.

Note: We don’t typically hire at the top of the range.
