About the role:
As Safety Specialist you will be responsible to assist Manager Health Safety and Environment to further develop OHS (Occupational, Health, Safety) strategies in Qatar Duty Free with the primary focus on retail safety, ensuring compliance with local regularity authorities and international best practices that will maintain the safety of staff, customers and facilities.
- The primary focus will be to maintain the safety of all staff, guests, contractors and any other persons who may work on, visit or use the premises/sites or who may be affected by its activities or services.
- Implementation of preventative safety strategies and policies to ensure, as far as is practicable, safety of staff and guests while avoiding damage to plant, equipment and facilities.
- Identify and fulfil any health, safety and environment requirements for food and beverage department developing and implementing these food hygiene standards as required, and by monitoring and reviewing existing processes.
- Identify, manage and proactively support both distribution warehouse and Inflight warehouse to ensure strict controls and practices are in place to eliminate any issues.
- Support and work closely with QR Group fire safety team to ensure full compliance and support to all projects and processes.
- Significant awareness, understanding and provisions in place for all material handling equipment across the QDF group and work with subsidiaries to gain a better understanding and benchspan against their practices.
- Advise and provide direction to all QDF staff to ensure that all fire safety and environmental affairs are in place to prevent business disruption while ensuring revenue flow and avoiding negative publicity towards the QDF.
- Assist the management team in implementing Health and Safety systems and procedures to meet specific requirements, such as accident reporting and the control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH), in a consistent and effective manner.
- Manage the collection, storage and analysis of accident and other health and safety data and to produce management reports, identify trends and recommend action.
- Develop and deliver succinct programmes tailored to the needs of all QDF Departments with a focus on occupational health and safety so that staff and guests are able to respond in an effective safe manner.
- Lead and support for all driver awareness incentives and reduce vehicle accidents across QDF and the group.
- Provide strategic foresight on cause and effect of accidents and incidents with regard to safety developing contingencies to counter root cause of accidents and injuries.
- Develop, supervise and undertake audits, where necessary, to ensure and maintain QDF compliance to mandated and guideline safety measures.
- Respond to emergency situations as deemed necessary, to provide technical supervision and guidance.
- Conduct regular safety emergency response exercises to ensure the competence and readiness of all concerned in the event of a real emergency while also providing professional critique and after-action reports at the conclusion of each event.
- Provide technical review and guidance as required providing appraisal evaluations identifying cost effective protection and safety systems within the timeframes required.
- Analyse and provide technical expertise in the investigation of all reportable/loss time occurrences including maintaining adequate records and historical trend analysis documentation, providing feedback as necessary.
- Advise the Management Team on the implications of current and emerging health, safety and welfare legislation, including evaluating options, making recommendations and generating action plans to ensure compliance across the business.
- Support management to maintain safe systems of work and implement best practice, including providing specialist advice, coaching and practical support as needed.
- Promote and maintain safety awareness across QDF in order to maintain the safety of all concerned.
- Perform other department duties related to his/her position as directed by the Head of the Department

Qualifications
About you
The successful candidate will have the following qualifications and skills:
- High School Qualification / Vocational Qualification /Diploma or Equivalent (Type of Diploma Based on Role) with Minimum 5 years of job-related experience or Bachelor’s Degree or Equivalent with Minimum 4 years of job-related experience.
- Experience and knowledge of facility management an advantage
- Prior experience of implementing OHS (Occupational Health and Safety) strategies and policies.
- Candidate should have an International General Certificate (NEBOSH IGC) in Health and safety (IGC) or international equivalent.
