OVERVIEW & KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The Avionics Aircraft Maintenance Technician (AMT) is a critical maintenance role at Xwing Air.? In this role, you will maintain the proper and safe functioning of Xwing Air’s growing fleet, ensuring exceptional levels of aircraft readiness.? Avionics AMTs are responsible for the installation, service, and repair of avionics and electrical systems, including, but not limited to: ADS-B Transponder Systems, WAAS GPS Systems, Airborne Navigation and Communication Systems, Autopilots, Compass Systems, Audio Panels/Intercoms, etc., as well as other aircraft, aircraft components and aircraft systems according to Xwing Air and FAA requirements; perform inspections during assembly of parts and after repair or installation of components; perform functional check outs in accordance with approved and accepted technical documentation, utilize appropriate test and measurement equipment, document maintenance procedures including component damage, origin, and condition; and practice safety conscious behaviors in all operational processes and procedures.? 

SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES (not comprehensive of all tasks):  

  • Performs all work activities in accordance with established laws, regulations, standards, safety protocols, and procedures to ensure safety of self and others.

  • Performs routine or special maintenance inspections to prevent failure of aircraft electrical and avionic systems and components; 

  • Performs complete operational and functional checks on navigation, communication and flight control systems, including instrumentation and pilot/static installations, etc. 

  • Fabricates wiring harnesses, installs/modifies avionics and electrical systems.

  • Determines when a component should be repaired or replaced; decides upon necessary repair scheme and quantity and type of parts needed to accomplish proper repair; secures same from the supply department.

  • Follows approved maintenance procedures for subject component or system, consulting internal procedures that have been FAA approved, original equipment manufacturer’s (OEM’s) technical data, and work package instructions.

  • Inspects completed work before sign off to identify any needed rework and performs rework; ensures that repaired components meet prescribed standards and tolerances.

  • Performs serviceability tests on repaired components/systems using test equipment specified by the original equipment manufacturer, or equivalent 

  • Completes work package documentation by signing/stamping off after finishing all designated operations.

  • Performs installation of digital avionic equipment.

  • Interprets avionic/electrical wiring diagrams, wire identification, harness fabrication, wiring and cable integrity, coax cables and fittings and connector assemblies.

  • Adjusts, repairs, or replaces malfunctioning components or assemblies, using hand tools and soldering iron.

  • Installs electrical and electronic components, assemblies, and systems in aircraft, using hand tools, power tools, and soldering iron.

  • Interprets flight test data to diagnose malfunctions and systemic performance problems.

  • Sets up and operates ground support and test equipment to perform functional tests of electrical and electronic systems.

  • Tests components or assemblies, using circuit tester, oscilloscope, and voltmeter.

  • Trouble shoots, repairs, reworks, and modifies worn or defective assemblies, components or systems.

  • Recommends replacement, repair, or modification of aircraft equipment based on inspection.? 

  • Reports issues, malfunctions, unusual wear, or damage to appropriate personnel, as required.? 

  • Installs, removes, or modifies aircraft structures, systems, or components, following drawings, schematics, charts, engineering orders, and technical publications.? 

  • Repairs worn, defective, or damaged parts or components, using hand tools, gauges, and testing equipment.?? 

  • Inspects completed work to certify that maintenance adheres to standards and procedures, and that aircraft are ready for operation.?? 

  • Interprets discrepancies or logs (written or verbal) to understand history and nature of issue, to troubleshoot issue, and to identify required next steps (e.g., fix, defer, replace).?? 

  • Researches, reads, and interprets technical manuals and guidelines to perform inspections, installations, repairs, or other work activities.?? 

  • Reviews maintenance records to determine if service and maintenance checks, repairs, and overhauls were performed at prescribed intervals.?? 

  • Maintains repair logs, documenting all preventative and corrective aircraft maintenance activities.?? 

  • Serves as a technical expert or mentor by providing advice and corrective recommendations to others.? 

  • Uses computers, computer systems, and other technology to enter, document, access, receive, or communicate information.

  • Maintain parts store including parts ordering, returning of cores and inventory.

  • Assist the Maintenance Department with other duties as assigned, within scope of FAA certificate ratings.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be authorized to work in the US - We are unable to sponsor employment visas.

  • Must have a high school diploma or equivalent. 

  • Must have a valid driver’s license.

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.

  • Must be able to pass an extensive background check and DOT Safety Sensitive Position drug test.

  • Must have an FAA Mechanic’s Certificate with Either Airframe Only (A Only) or Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) certificate meeting recency requirements as specified in 14 CFR § 65.83.

  • Must be able to read and write English at a level to comprehend and apply information contained in technical manuals.

  • Certain duties may require working in confined spaces for periods of time.

  • Should meet the physical requirements which qualify a person to perform essential job functions, including the ability to lift at least 70 pounds.

  • Possesses the basic understanding of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic disciplines as they apply to aircraft systems.

  • Must have the ability to work a flexible schedule, including rotating/fixed shifts, holidays and weekends.

  • Must have the ability to travel to other Xwing Air  locations in support of organizational needs as required in support of ongoing operations (<35%).

  • Ability to work independently, or as part of a team to meet operational goals, schedules, and ensure continued customer satisfaction.

  • Able to work in outdoor adverse weather conditions

  • Must have the ability to clearly and effectively communicate aircraft maintenance status changes verbally and in writing or via electronic methods.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Aircraft Electronics Association (AEA) NCATT Aircraft Electronics Technician (AET)Certification

  • Possess own tools ( line maintenance tooling, specialty and calibrated tools provided)

  • Experimental Aircraft Development / R&D Operational Experience

  • Experienced with Legacy Avionics Systems such as the BendixKing KCS-55 compass system, as well as the KFC-150 autopilot troubleshooting.

  • Experience with Garmin G600 and G1000 integrated flight deck system

  • Previous Cessna Caravan C208B maintenance experience and documented training, or other relevant Part 23 Turboprop experience.

  • Ability to interface between multiple organizational disciplines, levels, and departments
