The Avionics Technician troubleshoots and repairs (or sends out for repair) avionics systems that are malfunctioning in customer aircraft, and installs avionics systems and components. Directly and openly communicates with customers regarding the status and time frame of repairs. The Avionics Technician uses sound judgment and technical aptitude to make decisions regarding installation, troubleshooting, and discrepancy resolution. The Avionics Technician is technically competent and is expected to be able to accomplish most of his/her duties with minimal supervision. As customers are on site at the facilities, professional appearance and communication skills are required in order to create a positive and lasting professional relationship. Maintenance experience with Falcon, Lear, Challenger, Embraer, Cessna and/or Hawker airframes is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities:

  • Troubleshoots and repairs Flight Management Systems (FMS,) Satcom and Airborne Radio Telephone Systems, EGPWS/TAWS, communications, navigation, radar, TCAS/XPDR, DME, autopilot/flight director, audio, ADF, Cabin Management/In-flight Entertainment (IFE), and other sophisticated avionics/electronics systems.
  • Installs avionics systems on customer aircraft.
  • Provides emergency power supply battery service for customer aircraft in-house.
  • Maintains continuous communication with customers regarding the status of avionics work on their aircraft. 
  • Documents all work accomplished (a.k.a. sign-off) in a clear, concise and accurate manner.
  • Works fair share of overtime and travels to customer locations or other Standard Aero facilities as required.
  • Tests, installs, and/or repairs electrical/avionics equipment and systems, including systems and controls contained in the flight compartment. Routes wire throughout aircraft tying into both new and factory installed wire bundles, and may assist in functional check-out and troubleshooting of all wiring systems.  
  • Installs, aligns, and wires electrical and electronic components such as instruments, sensors, radio communications, antennas, J-boxes, lights, etc.
  • Determines the best location and method for installing and removing electronic equipment and systems by applying general trade practices and adhering to prints originated by Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, various mod centers (STC’s), and many aircraft manufacturers’ wiring diagrams.
  • Fabricates wiring harnesses; solders connector plugs; strips and hand lugs wiring; identifies wiring and fabricates and installs surface control indicating systems; performs terminal splicing; wires junction boxes; routes wiring and conduit; and performs any other electrical bench or installation work as necessary to complete the electrical repair or modification of the aircraft.
  • Performs continuity checks and may assist in the functional check-out of complete aircraft systems.
  • Assists in performing more complex electrical work as required.  May assist in troubleshooting, locating, and correcting wiring difficulties.
  • Operates hand and power tools.  May operate electrical test equipment.  Must be familiar with color coding and symbols used in identifying hardware and components.
  • Must have knowledge of power sources and bonding and grounding techniques.
  • Adheres to shop standards, various manufacturers’ standards and practices and has knowledge of various federal and military standards including FAA Advisory Circulars.

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • Minimum 1-3 yrs of related avionics experience.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
  • Must be able to stand for extended periods of time (8+ hours), lift 50 pounds unassisted, walk, bend, stretch, and climb ladders to service aircraft
  • Formal avionics systems and electronics education/training.
  • Works fair share of overtime and travels to customer locations or other Standard Aero facilities as required
  • Must have knowledge of both electrical and electronic theories and be able to understand and follow wiring diagrams.
  • Analytical skills required to perform complex mechanical troubleshooting.
  • Must be able to see to disassemble and visually inspect.
  • Must be able to hear to detect the sources of problems.
  • Must have excellent hand-to-eye coordination.
  • Must have good interpersonal and verbal skills in order to interface with customers and employees.

Preferred:

  • 2-3 years Aviation training preferred. This training may take the form of military training, aeronautical academy or technical school training and/or an Aviation Associates Degree.
  • A&P license preferred.
  • FCC license preferred.
  • Corporate aircraft maintenance experience preferred.
