Mission of the Job

Working with Antenna Technologies team, the role involves: looking after projects, industrial activities and R&D studies. Hence, in perspective, continuous improvement and self-discipline are requested.

Main activities

As part of a team working on Antenna Technologies for mainly space applications, the target primary tasks and activities will include:

  • RF Analysis and Design of Antenna sub-systems (such as Single/Multi-Reflector Optics configurations, Active Antennas like Direct Radiating Arrays or Imaging Phased Arrays, Reflectarrays, Radiating Elements, etc.) from few hundreds of MHz up to 100 GHz, including concept formulation, feasibility, trade-off and optimization, on the basis of predefined requirements;
  • RF Analysis and Design of Antenna components (such as Patches, Horns, Polarizers, Ortho-Mode Transducers, Beam-Forming Networks, etc., in waveguide or planar technology) from few hundreds of MHz up to 100 GHz, including concept formulation, feasibility, trade-off and optimization, on the basis of predefined requirements;
  • RF Testing of Antenna sub-systems and components, including related reporting;
  • Support to prototype manufacturing and RF verifications by numerical simulations vs. experimental testing;
  • SW development for antenna RF analysis, design and optimization;
  • In collaboration with other disciplines (mechanical, thermal, technology, quality), selection and detailed definition of the most appropriate manufacturing materials, processes and procedures to be followed for the development of space qualified Antenna and RF units;
  • Implementation of components development plan, including monitoring of workshops, suppliers, preparation of purchase orders;
  • Contribution to the preparation of proposals for industrial and R&D activities;
  • Preparation of technical reports, program reviews documentation and execution of oral presentations towards national and international customers;
  • Interface and management of subcontractors or suppliers;
  • Interface with customers (meetings, respond to RIDS, etc);
  • Technical management of projects and studies

Education/Training:

Essential: Master’s Degree in Electronic (Telecommunication, Microwave) Engineering, degree achieved within maximum 6 years study course, with top score

  • Desirable: Post-graduation degree in Antenna and/or Microwave Engineering.

Experience:

  • Essential: Experience (4÷6 years) in Antenna analysis, design and development;
  • Desirable: Previous employment in space industry design department with responsibility of Antenna analysis, design and development;
  • Desirable: Experience in development of Antenna products for space projects will be considered as asset.

Tool or product requirements:

  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills;
  • Ability to generate innovative solutions and propose them;
  • Pragmatic and product/results oriented approach;
  • Familiarity with design and technological aspects specific to the development of antenna components for space applications;
  • Familiarity with ESA procedures and space products development standards;
  • Very good knowledge of SW tools for antenna design, in particular Ticra GRASP, POS, CHAMP;
  • Very good knowledge of SW tools for design of RF components, in particular CST (Time Domain, Frequency Domain, Integral Equation), HFSS, Microwave Office, Microwave Wizard, etc;
  • Knowledge of Matlab and/or at least one programming language (Fortran90, C, C&43;&43; or Java);
  • Basic knowledge of standard Project Management techniques and tools is considered a strong asset.

Languages:

  • English (fluent in technical and non-technical, written and spoken);
  • Italian (intermediate in technical and non-technical, written and spoken).
