Job Summary
As an Engineer I, the successful candidate will be responsible for equipment, process development, and sustaining activities for Infrared Detector packaging operations. This job requires developing, documenting, and maintaining processes for assembly of cryogenic packages (Dewars) for IR detectors. The applicant must have knowledge in process development for assembly operations in at least several of the following areas: epoxy dispense, die attach, underfill, encapsulation, ovens, optical measurement equipment, and interpreting mechanical and electrical drawings.
Job Responsibilities
- Supports and participates in technical activity.
- Provide technical expertise and assistance to other engineers and support personnel.
- Interact with technical management, other professionals, technicians, and support personnel to coordinate, recommend, and confer regarding technical activities and progress.
- Specify and evaluate supplier components, subsystems, and services.
- Designs, develops, analyzes, documents, and supports testing of products, systems, or subsystems.
- May use computer-aided engineering or other design/analysis software in the performance of assignments.
- Ability to work independently under minimal supervision.
- Provides regular reporting of progress and status.
- Responsible for completion of assigned task on time and meeting technical requirements.
- Reviews customer specifications and requirements, and under direction develops designs to best support them, including cost as a key design variable.
- Specifies and evaluates supplier components, subsystems and services.
- Supports the program design to cost and design for manufacture requirements.
- Develops prototypes to retire key development risks as directed.
- Communicates clearly with other company personnel and customers as required.
- Experience with vacuum principles.
- Able to work in Class 100 Clean Room
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering with 0-2+ years applicable engineering experience.
- Ability to obtain and maintain US DoD clearance as needed, which requires U.S. Citizenship
- Experience/Knowledge with packaging practices and processes.
- Ability to conceive tooling and generate fabrication drawings using ProE and/or ACad
- Experience/Education in chemical and physical properties testing to include failure analyses and techniques (e.g. SEM, Auger, FTIR)
- Ability to read mechanical drawings and interpret GD&T
- Proficiency with electronic instruments and test equipment
- Familiarity with analytical methods; ability to follow a DOE precisely and make sound decisions when deviations are identified.
Desired Skills
- Experience / familiarity with digital cameras and microscopes.
- Ability to read mechanical drawings, including interpretation of GD&T.
- Ability to conceive tooling and generate fabrication drawings using ProE is a plus.
- Familiarity with failure analysis testing and techniques including SEM, Auger, and FTIR.
- Ability to operate various types of manufacturing or process equipment to conduct complex assignments.
- Knowledge and execution skills in a majority of the following: epoxy dispense, die attach, wire bonding, part preparation, soldering, welding, mechanical and optical dimensional measurement.
- Familiarity with analytical methods and the ability to follow a DOE precisely and make sound decisions when deviations are identified.
