Job Description SummaryThe engineer will be a member of the Ceramic Matrix Composite (CMC) and Environmental Barrier Coating (EBC) materials and processing team whose mission is to advance state of the art CMC’s and EBCs and enable CMC technologies for commercial and military aerospace applications.

The role will partner with design and a vertically integrated supply chain to advance CMC composite technology focused on the definition of fiber in composite manufacturing and design. The engineer will define and lead efforts to define/review process qualification requirements and update the engineering definition of fiber in the composite through specification updates, modeling and characterization.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute projects to improve the definition of SiC fiber in ceramic matrix composite aircraft and aerospace components.
  • Partner with Design and Supply Chain to support CMC technology maturation programs, root cause investigations, and other process or material development.
  • Define qualification requirements for process changes and equipment qualifications related to fiber. Review and document decisions and their substantiation in accordance with product definition.
  • Review process and fiber non-conformances and determine potential impact to the CMC material.
  • Leverage manufacturing data, material test data, and process-microstructure-property modeling to enhance engineering definition of the fiber and other responsibilities above.
  • Collaborate and lead efforts across teams, sites, and disciplines to analyze and resolve technical issues.
  • Communicate program plans and gaps to leadership and within work group
  • Document technical data and lessons learned

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, or Computer Science
  • At least 5 additional year of experience within an engineering environment

Desired Characteristics

  • Knowledge of ceramic processing, materials behavior, textiles and/or chemical production
  • Effective team building and project management ability
  • Graduate Engineering degree
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
