Description:As part of the Conceptual Design team in Palmdale, CA, you will have an opportunity to develop new air vehicle systems and technology solutions as part of Lockheed Martins Advanced Development Programs, a.k.a. the Skunk Works.

We are seeking a proven, highly experienced Principal Conceptual Design Engineer with technical expertise in aircraft design, technology development, and leading both projects and teams. The candidate will be responsible for infusion of advanced technologies into the conceptual aircraft designs, with focus on Naval aircraft applications. Must demonstrate experience working with USG technology development centers and capturing Contracted Research and Development (CRAD) for advanced technologies and conceptual design activities.

The candidate will be expected to interface with USG technology development centers to identify and mature critical enabling technologies and work with ADP technical and program leadership to incorporate those technologies across multiple ADP programs. The candidate must be familiar with the conceptual and preliminary aircraft development process and advanced aerospace technologies in areas such as aerodynamics, propulsion, low observables, EW, mission systems, etc.

The selected engineer should be a highly motivated self-starter capable of learning quickly and thriving in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

The candidates responsibilities may include:
- Planning, managing, and leading projects; especially business development/capture management
- Leading technology development capture and execution of CRAD programs.
- Leading technology integration studies, in collaboration with other specialty engineering teams
- Working with programs and ADP technology organizations to develop and maintain technology roadmaps that align with organizational objectives
- Configuration layout, internal arrangement, aircraft performance, sizing and analysis, advanced surfacing and lofting
- Ability to lead and mentor less experienced engineers

Previous experience with advanced aircraft conceptual design/development is required, and an understanding of the integration of survivability technologies, propulsion systems, subsystems, sensors, and payloads is preferred.

The candidate should have excellent verbal and written communication skills and be capable of presenting their work to management and customer representatives. Some travel may be required.

Must possess an existing SECRET (or higher) security clearance.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelors or above degree from an accredited college in Aeronautical/Aerospace Engineering, or similar.
- Experience with capture and execution of advanced USG aerospace technology development and infusion projects, preferably with naval aircraft applications
- Experience with conceptual aircraft design/development (e.g. aircraft design, layout, sizing, aerodynamics and performance analysis)
- Experience leading teams of multi-disciplinary engineers
Desired Skills:
- Prior work experience in USG advanced aerospace technology development, especially naval aircraft applications
- Prior work experience in advanced military aircraft development, especially naval aircraft
- Familiar with military aircraft design principles and tools
- Familiar with design of low observable aircraft, integration of survivability technologies, propulsion systems, subsystems, sensors, and payloads
- Masters or PhD in Aerospace Engineering or similar field preferred
- Experience with Catia V5 or V6
- Excellent technical writing and presentation skills
- Must be willing to mentor junior-level team members.

Ability to Work Remotely: Onsite Full-time: The work associated with this position will be performed onsite at a designated Lockheed Martin facility.
Work Schedules: Lockheed Martin supports a variety of alternate work schedules that provide additional flexibility to our employees. Schedules range from standard 40 hours over a five day work week while others may be condensed. These condensed schedules provide employees with additional time away from the office and are in addition to our Paid Time off benefits.
Schedule for this Position: 4x10 hour day, 3 days off per week
Pay Rate:
The annual base salary range for this position in California and New York (excluding most major metropolitan areas), Colorado, or Washington is $140,400 - $269,100 . Please note that the salary information is a general guideline only. Lockheed Martin considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidates work experience, education/ training, key skills as well as market and business considerations when extending an offer.

(Washington state applicants only) Non-represented full-time employees: accrue at least 10 hours per month of Paid Time Off (PTO) to be used for incidental absences and other reasons; receive at least 90 hours for holidays. Represented full time employees accrue 6.67 hours of Vacation per month; accrue up to 52 hours of sick leave annually; receive at least 96 hours for holidays. PTO, Vacation, sick leave, and holiday hours are prorated based on start date during the calendar year.

This position is incentive plan eligible.
Pay Rate:
The annual base salary range for this position in most major metropolitan areas in California, and New York is $161,500 - $304,300. Please note that the salary information is a general guideline only.
