Job Role:

We are looking for a Continued Airworthiness Engineer, i.e. within the Design Organisation / Part 21J.

An engineer in this role is responsible for delivering the Continued Airworthiness activities in a timely, consistent and professional manner by: -

  • Delivery of Investigations (Accident and Defect) in an efficient and timely manner engaging with customers, suppliers and company personnel (pan-functional) providing a clear and concise analysis of the investigation with recommendations for lessons learnt
  • Delivery and management of technical instructions post investigation of issues ensuring clear and concise instructions are provided to the operators of the product to re-establish the integrity of the product until such time that a design change can be implemented
  • Deliver the Product Flight Safety Analysis assets on a monthly basis to the appropriate stakeholder community providing potential product integrity hot spot information for the Design Organisation to investigate further

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the Lines of Business and the Airworthiness and Product Integrity Centre of Expertise in the delivery of the initial airworthiness activities in a professional and timely manner, challenging inefficiencies and inconsistencies in the operation.
  • Support the Airworthiness Discipline to develop and expand their expertise and influence through supporting internal community of practices and external engagements as appropriate.
  • Problem solving of Airworthiness issues identified in a timely and professional manner, engaging with Engineering teams and subject matter experts as appropriate. These will generally involve collaborating across a virtual team influencing individuals to deliver.

Key Attributes:

  • Understanding of the role Airworthiness and the Design Organisation play in the development, flight test and in service operation of an aircraft.

A strong candidate would have awareness (even if no direct experience) of the following:-

  • Independent checking of flight safety aspects
  • Compiling flight clearances
  • Occurrence analysis
  • Defect investigations
  • Compiling technical instructions
  • Accident and incident investigations

Experience of using regulations and standards in the design, maintenance or operation of military or civil aircraft, or of other safety critical systems. Also an awareness of:

  • UK Military Regulatory Publications
  • DAOS / MAOS approvals
  • Design Standards such as Def Stan 00-970 or Mil Hdbk 516.
  • Airworthiness codes DO-160 - Environmental Conditions, DO-178 – Software Considerations, DO-254 - Complex Electronic Hardware, Def-Stan 00-055 – Software, Def-Stan 00-056 – Safety Management Requirements for Defence Systems, US MIL-HDBK-810 - Environmental Engineering Considerations.
