Overview
Responsible for the design of components and assemblies of aircraft wheel and brake systems and modifying exiting designs to develop or improve products and facilitates manufacturing operations utilizing solid modeling software. Supports management of solid model data and product configuration management utilizing product lifecycle management data application.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Under direction of the Core Engineering Supervisor, performs routine design of new aircraft wheel and brake mechanical or electromechanical components, subsystems, and systems by applying solid modeling techniques and basic engineering principles.
- Ability to create 2D detailed component and assembly drawings.
- Utilizes product lifecycle management application to create and upload solid model data and to complete request change actions.
- Direct, assist and check component and assembly detailed drawings or production hardware and check complete layouts and specifications prepared by others.
- Use proper Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) practices.
- Under direct supervision of the Core Engineering Supervisor participates in division configuration management activities including the general configuration management of division documents, drawings, and solid models according to company and industry standards.
- Supports the release of formal engineering changes within company product lifecycle management application and communicates status of engineering changes by generating formal engineering change notifications.
- Completes formal solid model and drawing requests for the organization.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment with general objectives regarding projects and team goals, and to apply judgment in selecting procedures and techniques that should be applied.
- Ability to effectively communicate and present status, actions, recommendations, and other technical information with clarity and precision.
Other company/engineering related activities as required.
Qualifications
Education and Experience
- Associate degree in Mechanical Engineering or related technical discipline.
- Demonstrated ability to perform the essential functions of the job typically acquired through 2-5 years of related experience in drafting and design.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Experience using solid modeling software, CATIA V5 preferred.
- Basic knowledge of product lifecycle management tools, ENOVIA preferred.
- Experience in an aerospace environment or similar industry.
- Basic knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing to ASME Y.14.5M-1994.
- Must demonstrate effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively with others and be a participative team player.
- Proficiency with MS Office products required.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to sit. The employee frequently is required to use hands to operate a computer and is required to talk and hear. The employee is frequently required to stand and walk or move to other locations within or outside of the facility. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision. Also expected of the employee is regular attendance, the ability to work cooperatively and professionally with others and members of the public, and the ability to manage multiple tasks at once. The employee may be required to travel to vendors or customers including overnight trips.
