Company Overview
DRS Marlo Coil manufactures robust heat transfer, refrigeration, and air handling equipment for industrial, commercial, utility and marine markets.  Our custom engineered heat transfer solutions are used in a variety of configurations to cool, heat, and dehumidify air streams for process and building comfort.  We pride ourselves on having equipment on most surface combatant ships and submarines in the U.S. Navy fleet.  Additionally, DRS Marlo Coil is positioned for significant growth in the Industrial/Commercial markets.



Our Electrical Engineer will be responsible for developing a variety of HVAC&R product designs for both commercial and defense markets including air conditioning, refrigeration and air handling systems.  This position will be responsible for developing new products; supporting legacy products; sizing and selecting components; creating associated documentation; and supporting product testing, qualification and production.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Development and support of electrical equipment and components, especially for air conditioning, refrigeration and air handling systems

  • Review customer specifications and requirements, and develop compliant designs to best support them

  • Develop manufacturing drawings, bills of material and associated supporting documentation for fabrication and delivery of products and prototypes

  • Specify and evaluate supplier components, subsystems and services

  • Support testing, qualification, documentation and analysis of prototypes, products, systems or subsystems 

  • Development of technical documentation, manuals and procedures

  • Support design to cost and design for manufacturability efforts

  • Work with manufacturing and cross functional teams to achieve project cost and manufacturing efficiency goals

  • Responsible for completion of projects on time, within budget and following design specifications

  • Participate in preparation of proposals

  • Communicate clearly (written and oral) with other company personnel and customers as required

  • Contribute to team efforts by accomplishing results in a cooperative and supportive manner

  • Provide technical knowledge and assistance to other engineers and support personnel

  • Use computer-aided engineering or other design/analysis software in the performance of assignments

  • Ability to work independently under supervision of others while regular reporting of progress and status

  • Support, communicate, reinforce and defend the mission, values and culture of the organization

Secondary Responsibilities:

  • Help lead growth in electrical engineering designs and capabilities

  • Provide budget, cost and schedule input for status of project assignments

  • Attend appropriate engineering, customer or business meetings

  • Hands-on support of prototype fabrication, assembly and test

  • Provide technical support for production operations as required

  • Provide training and work instructions to production and laboratory personnel

  • Maintain and develop technical knowledge by conferring with technical specialists and suppliers; attending educational workshops; and reviewing professional publications


  • Bachelors Degree in Electrical Engineering or related technical field and a minimum of 2 years of experience

  • Competent technical expertise and application domain knowledge in Electrical, Software and Systems as described in Specialties below.

  • Competent using MS Office (Word, Excel, Visio and PowerPoint)

Specialties include:

Electrical:  Involved with the design, development, modification and analysis of various electrical and electronic systems.  May include Hardware, Power Engineering, Power Electronic Engineering, Electromagnetic Engineering, or others.  Troubleshoot and diagnose malfunctions in existing products or systems and make modifications as needed.  Compile and evaluate design and test data.  Develop documentation, drawings, manuals, provisioning, safety, and others as needed.   Analyze, develop and recommend design approaches.  Experience in design of HVAC-R control systems is a plus.  Experience in design and testing for EMI/EMC in compliance with MIL-STD-461 is a plus.  Experience with AutoCAD / AutoCAD Electrical is desired.  Experience with PTC Creo is a plus.


Software:  Involved with the design, development, analysis, testing and debugging of computer software applications and/or systems.  May include Signal Processing, Real-time, Firmware, Operator/Machine Interface, or others.  Determine hardware needs, interfaces, and compatibility.  Complete documentation and procedures for installation, maintenance, and operation.  Interact with users to define system requirements and/or necessary modifications.  Develop points lists, and control algorithms.  Experience with Ladder Logic and PLCs is a plus. 


Systems:  Involved with the analysis, design, development and implementation of new and/or existing systems/sub-systems.  Determine system specifications and flow down of requirements to components.  Support acquisition of hardware and software (or subcontractor services) as needed.
