Northrop Grumman Mission Systems is seeking an Electrical Engineer Level 3/4 based out of Sunnyvale, CA. This role is part of the machinery organization that supports propulsion and power generation machinery for US Navy submarines. What you’ll get to do:
As an Electrical Engineer Level 3/4 you will work on a wide variety of tasks and systems in support of our Turbine Generators. This position requires a strong electrical engineering background and someone interested in working on a wide variety of projects from power electronics, magnetic bearings, generators, and control systems. This position requires the ability to work within a multidiscipline team, develop solutions to complex problems and drive project completion. You can expect to perform the following:
- Develop electrical interface requirements, including ensuring control system analog or digital circuits correctly interface with external sensors or actuators.
- Review DC bus architectures, including associated AC-DC conversion power electronics
- Design and analyze insulation systems and develop requirements
- Calculate magnetic bearing loads and forces
- Create system models to evaluate generator or magnetic bearing performance characteristics
- Review and evaluate amplifier and power switching designs
- Develop and review position sensor designs
- Design interface cables between control system and sensors/actuators
- Design circuits for sensor interfaces and signal conditioning
- Create and evaluate grounding diagrams
- Ensure designs meet EMI requirements
- Review control system schematics and architectures including developing and specifying requirements
- Troubleshoot issues that arise during component or system testing

Basic Qualifications for Level 3:
- Bachelors degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, Electrical Engineering or related Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM) discipline with 5 years related experience; or Master’s degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, Electrical Engineering or related Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM) discipline 3 years related experience.
- 3 years of experience in electrical design
- Experience implementing designs.
- Solid understanding of electrical engineering concepts and designs.
- Solid understanding of electrical machines.
- Experience with MATLAB/Simulink
- U.S. Citizenship required.
- Ability to obtain a DoD Secret security clearance.
Basic Qualifications for Level 4:
- Bachelors degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, Electrical Engineering or related Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM) discipline with 8 years related experience; or Master’s degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, Electrical Engineering or related Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM) discipline 6 years related experience.
- 3 years of experience in in electrical design.
- Experience implementing designs.
- Solid understanding of electrical engineering concepts and designs.
- Solid understanding of electrical machines.
- Experience with MATLAB/Simulink
- U.S. Citizenship required.
- Ability to obtain a DoD Secret security clearance.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with electric machines for marine propulsion applications.
- Experience with naval nuclear propulsion programs.
- Experience with Magnetic Bearings.
- Experience with AC and DC generators and power conversion
- Experience with voltage and speed controls.
- Leadership experience and interest
Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
