Engineering Manager
Location: Devonport, Plymouth Hybrid, 2/3 days per week on site
Rate: up to 150 ph Umbrella

Duration: 12 Months
Purpose:
To support the Design and Safety Manager with day to day engineering decisions, liaison with project management community, supply base and resource selection / interview for a growing engineering team.
Overview:
Support the delivery of engineering outcomes in 5 Basin Berth a non-tidal berth for Nuclear Submarine support and maintenance at Devonport Royal Dockyard. Directly responsible to the Design and Safety Manager, supporting them and the design managers in the team with delivery of engineering outcomes and assurance of technical documentation.
The engineering team is in the process of building resilience in the ranks. An active role will be taken in building the medium term capability of the team in support of programme demands. Time will also be spent aiding the design and safety manager with team management.
Activity will also focus on the liaison with the project management community within the project and interfacing with the supply chain on technical matters.
Key Skillset
• Strong technical leadership / project management background
• Knowledge of highly regulated industries such as oil & gas
• Evidence of active stakeholder management and positive communications skills
• Nuclear experience desirable
Requirements
• Team manager – managed up to at least 50 people.
• Knowledge of Design and Nuclear Safety
• Previous experience in Major projects (nuclear or non-nuclear)
• Mechanical / Electrical / Civil experience – can have broad experience across all three or specialist in one
• Negotiation / collaboration skills - deal with external contract partners
• Able to set tasking / deal with queries, assess quality work of design and safety.
• Background in Engineering systems and design
• Make engineering decisions based on design options and approval of designs.
• Preferred - extensive knowledge of design codes.
