Job Description:

Airbus US Manufacturing Facility is looking for an Engineering Specialist, Wing Support Manager to join our  A220 Department based in Mobile, AL.

The primary goal of this role is to assist LCS001/LCS002 in meeting its production milestones pertaining to wing join. This involves directing a multifunctional team and ensuring all processes and tools are optimized for efficient production.

Your working environment:

Nearby on ‘Airbus Way’ you will find the Airbus U.S. Manufacturing Facility for commercial aircraft. Opened at the Mobile Aeroplex at Brookley in 2015, the facility produces A320 Family aircraft and added a second product line for the A220 in 2019. Your challenges:

 

  • Multifunctional Team Management: Lead a team encompassing production, engineering, methods, quality, and site services. Ensure cohesive operations and effective collaboration. 

  • Milestone Achievement: Provide critical support to LCS001/LCS002 in reaching its production milestones related to wing join. Actively address challenges and facilitate progress. Assume the role of business approver to decide on commencement or postponement of wing joining operations. 

  • Tool Optimization: Acquire an in-depth understanding of all tools utilized at LCS001/LCS002 for wing join. Identify areas for optimization to enhance production efficiency. 

  • Project Initiation: Proactively start projects aimed at optimizing production builds. Lead initiatives from conception to implementation. 

  • Manufacturing Support: Offer guidance and direction to manufacturing while collaborating closely with the engineering team. Ensure alignment of objectives and strategies. 

  • Disciplinary Integration: Foster a collaborative environment where LCS001/LCS002 works in harmony with various disciplines to achieve common goals. 

  • Time Management: Efficiently manage time to provide adequate coverage and support to production. This may include working during second shifts and weekends. 

  • Performance Gap Analysis: Identify performance gaps and implement corrective actions to ensure the achievement of objectives. 

  • Information Exchange and Collaboration: Establish and coordinate the exchange of information between Mobile and other FAL sites, promoting collaboration. 

  • Team Development: Conduct performance assessments, oversee team activities, and encourage the growth and development of team members. Create opportunities for professional advancement within the team.





 

Your boarding pass:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering degree, or equivalent relevant experience.

  • Required: Minimum of 10 years of engineering related experience and support to production experience;

  • You have Material Review Board (MRB) or MAP experience;

  • You have experience in design office (design or methods) of aircraft structure;

  • Preferred: Prior team leadership is an asset.

  • MRB delegation on the A220

  • Required:

  • You are familiar with design, methods, materials and processes, systems installation and wiring, interiors components, flight test activities and configuration management principles;

  • You are resourceful and able to find creative ways to achieve desired outcome, adapting to changing situation and emerging obstacles;

  • You are able to deploy continuous improvement initiatives;

  • Ability to simplify complex issues and summarize risks, key actions and next steps. 

  • Demonstrate the ability to work in a team composed of individuals with various background and different culture;

  • You must also be a person with initiative, strong sense of responsibility and good engineering judgment;

  • You have good interpersonal skills, able to develop relationships with internal stakeholders and influence external stakeholders;

  • You are a good communicator and are able to listen, coach and guide employees; 

  • You have an understanding of the principles of lean manufacturing;

  • You possess the skills to plan and organize to ensure the attainment of results; 

  • You are an energetic person with excellent communication and interpersonal skills, a high sense of commitment, and a willingness to accept responsibilities while acting independently in a high-pressure partner/supplier team environment;

  • Required:

  • Ability to communicate verbally and writing 

  • Proficient in English

  • Preferred:

  • Comprehension and/or proficiency in French

  • Strong project management skills, able to prioritize and align team members towards meeting priorities.
