As an entry level Engineering Technician for Engineering Services. Incumbent performs basic technical duties where limited experience is required to accomplish assignments.

Duties

Typical duties include: Uses basic hand and power tools to perform tasks involved in the installation of equipment for the National Air Space (NAS). On occasion, may be required to climb antenna towers, poles, or structures in excess of 50 feet above the ground. Travel to remote locations up to 90 to 100 of the time.

Receives instruction in engineering, mechanical, electrical or electronics fundamentals, Federal Aviation
Regulations and shop practices. As employee progresses in training and work experience, he/she completes assignments that are more difficult. During training and developmental stages, contacts are primarily internal to the immediate work unit. As training progresses, contacts are expanded to include representatives of external organizations. In both cases, contacts are made to share information, provide data and discuss the status of assignments.

Regularly refers problems and questions to supervisor, team leader or more experienced technician. Works with increasing independence as training and experience progresses. Established manuals, procedures, and publications provide detailed guidance for almost all assignments. Supervisors, team leaders or more experienced technicians furnish instructions for completing detailed assignments. Work is reviewed carefully and frequently while in progress and at completion for quality and timeliness.

Physical Requirements: Incumbent must be able to use basic hand and power tools, climb structures in excess of 50 feet above the ground, and travel to remote locations from 90 to 100 of the time.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position at the FV-F level, you must demonstrate in your application that you possess at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the FG/GS-4. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position.

Specialized experience may include but is not limited to employing a variety of construction trade skills
such as carpentry, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, heavy equipment operations, maintenance & repair.

OR

Education: 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree (a) with major study in an appropriate field of engineering, construction, or industrial technology; or (b) that included at least 24 semester hours in any combination of courses such as engineering, engineering or industrial technology, construction, physics, drafting, surveying, physical science, or mathematics gained from an accredited college or university.

Combining Education and Experience: Combination education and experience may be qualifying for this position. Refer to OPM's Operating Manual Qualification Standards at, http://www.opm.gov/qualifications/sec-iv/a/gs-admin.asp for more information.

Salary Range: $45,591 - $68,389
