PAL Aerospace has partnered with SkyAlyne who has been named by Canada as the preferred bidder for the Future Aircrew Training (FAcT) Program which Is our next generation pilot and aircrew training program for the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF).  

We are now calling for expressions of interest in anticipation of a Contract Award in 2024. This Program will be a 20+ year contract and will be managed from the National Capital Region (Ottawa), with one of its main operational locations in Winnipeg, MB.   

The scope of the FAcT Program contract includes all training and in-service support requirements needed to prepare Pilots, Air Combat Systems Officers, and Airborne Electronic Sensor Operators to meet the future aerospace requirements of the RCAF. In collaboration with the Government of Canada and several major Canadian subcontractors, SkyAlyne will provide live-flying, simulator and classroom-based training, facilities construction and management, information management and information technology support, site support services, aircraft maintenance and much more. 

PAL Aerospace is growing its Systems Engineering & Integration team and is seeking a full-time professional to fill a Junior / Entry Systems Engineering role in Halifax, NS. Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work within the PAL Aerospace Systems Development Operations Team in Halifax, NS, in support of the design, construction and sustainment of the Systems Integration Laboratory (SIL), simulation driven testing environments and systems automation infrastructure.
  • Plan, communicate and work within an Agile development team.
  • Participate in Requirements and Systems Engineering tasks, including the decomposition of system requirements and creation of systems specifications for project scoping, and bid pursuits.
  • Assist in the specification and procurement phase of aircraft mission system components.
  • Design and assist with the procurement and construction of SIL systems and test support infrastructure.
  • Integrate, configure, test and debug system components in the SIL and on the aircraft.
  • Emulate / simulate systems environments to stimulate aircraft SIL components and sensors with the use Human Interface Devices, microcontrollers, and signal generators.
  • Implement software deployment infrastructure as code to configure aircraft mission system devices.
  • Maintain SIL components, ensure equipment is kept up to date with software / firmware update. Re-purpose and re-configure devices when required to meet other platform requirements and objectives.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Technical degree or diploma in Systems Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Computer Science, or Information Management / Information Technology with 5 years of experience working within a Systems Engineering and / or Systems Integration Lab team environment.
  • Well versed in engineering “V” model principals, processes, and best practices. Experience working as part of Agile teams an asset.
  • Experience using DDS or similar simulation technologies in real time simulation environments to interconnect mission system peripherals over aircraft data busses.
  • Familiarity with industry & military communications protocols such as RS232/422, SPI, I2C, CANBUS, Bluetooth, Arinc 429, MIL-STD-1553, TCP/UDP and Ethernet.
  • Knowledge of Shell scripting, Ansible, GIT, Docker, Kubernetes, Docker, LXC, or similar technologies is a plus.
  • Knowledge of Rust, Java, C/C++, JavaScript, Python or other programming languages.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, and Agile software development tools such as Jira, Jama, MS Azure and Confluence.
  • Experience using X-Plane, VBS, Unreal Engine or other similar type tools to develop simulation environments to validate aircraft sensors in a laboratory setting.
  • Troubleshooting experience and superior analytical, critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent time management and communication skills with the ability to work with a distributed, diverse team.
  • Demonstrated flexibility and able to adapt in a dynamic environment.

Must maintain confidentiality and not release or divulge any information and or assets for unauthorized purposes under per the Security Information Act, Access to Information Act, Privacy Act or breech of any Government Security Policy or Oath of Secrecy. 

  • Incumbent must be eligible for Government Personnel Security Clearance and Controlled Goods Program.
