Boeing is hiring for a Fluid System Standards Engineer (Mid and Senior Level) to work with our team in Renton, WA.

Our team is currently hiring for multiple positions including:

1)  Standards custodian responsible for standard parts and process specifications for airplane systems. Processes are related to metal forming, standards installations, and requirements of airplane parts used in low pressure systems. This position involves problem solving emergent issues in production at internal and external parts manufacturers and airplane build-up, which includes engineering design releases, troubleshooting manufacturing processes, and developing design improvements. Coordination with engineering support groups, suppliers, liaison engineering, customer engineering and factory mechanics is expected on a daily basis.

 

2) New business development focal that seeks out opportunities for creation of new, or revision of existing, Boeing and/or industry standards to improve Boeing’s production system by assessing current and future product designs working with the Custodian.  Develop internal documentation as may be needed for standardization of work processes.  Provide leadership and support for existing FSS projects as may be appropriate.   Regular collaboration with engineering design and support groups, supply chain groups, suppliers, liaison engineering, customer engineering, business analysts and factory personnel can be expected. 

This position is expected to be 100 onsite.  The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options. Renton, WA

 

 Position Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for custodianship of the requirements for fluid systems components and processes, (i.e. Tubing, hoses, reconnectable & permanent fittings, clamps, seals, valves, couplings, metallic & non-metallic ducts and also the installation related requirements).

  • Responsible for resolving emergent design, production, Supplier & In-Service related issues.

  • Participates in Industry level committees & the development of new projects & initiatives. SAE International is the main organization we are active participants. 

  • Manages supplier development, test and production activities and coordinates with the supplier to optimize the design and achieve technical and business improvement goals.

  • Participates in assessing and improving organizational business processes related to; production engagement, manufacturer qualification for parts and processes, hardware usage and application control, and technical requirements management.

  • Proactively search for and capture cost reduction/avoidance opportunities.

  • Develops new design/analysis processes and tools to improve effectiveness, quality and efficiency of the development effort.

  • Investigates emerging technologies to develop concepts for future product designs to meet projected requirements.

This position must meet export control compliance requirements. To meet export control compliance requirements, a “U.S. Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. 120.15 is required.  “U.S. Person” includes U.S. Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skill/Experience): 

  • Bachelors, Masters or Doctorate of Science from an accredited course of study in Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, or Chemistry, or other relevant technical field

  • Experience with Electrical, Mechanical, and/or Structural engineering systems

  • Experience leading and applying Root Cause Corrective Action (RCCA) processes to engineering development and manufacturing efforts

  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skill, and willingness to take an active role working with Supply Chain and outside suppliers to work in-service issues and new product development/qualification

  • Experience working in a role requiring detailed documentation of technical requirements

  • Experience with leadership and project management skills; ability to manage schedules & resources to ensure on time completion of projects

  • Proficient in all Microsoft Office Suite applications

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience): 

  • 5 or more years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Experience with aircraft standards commodities (i.e. Tubing, hoses, reconnectable & permanent fittings, clamps, seals, valves, couplings, metallic & non-metallic ducts) is desirable

  • Experience with fabrication and installation processes, i.e. material joining (swaging, welding), ducting & tubing forming is desirable

  • Experience with airplane fluid systems and system design, i.e. Mechanical Hydraulic Systems, Fuel Propulsion Systems, Water/Waste, Oxygen, and/or Environmental Control Systems is desirable

  • Lean 6-Sigma Training or lean manufacturing training is desirable

Typical Education/Experience: 

Mid-Level (Level 3):

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 5 or more years related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD, Master+3 years related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Senior (Level 4):

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 9 or more years related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+4 years related work experience, Master+7 years related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Pay is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.  

Summary pay range Mid-Level (Level 3): $102,000 – $138,000

Summary pay range Senior (Level 4): $124,100 – 167,900
