Roles and Responsibilities:

GE Aerospace’s technical interns gain broad exposure to varied areas of the Aircraft Engine business.  Experienced managers mentor intern contributions and ensure development during their assignments. Interns build leadership and functional skills through structured and challenging hands-on experience complemented by classroom training.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Works on projects often requiring independent decision-making. These projects are normally scoped to last between 2 and 6 months in duration, but can last for as long as 2 years.

  • May develop PowerPoint presentations and other graphic presentations to communicate progress, share best practices, or to provide updates.

  • May be asked to analyze data with excel or various other analysis tools

  • May be asked to take on certain aspects of a full time job within the function the intern is studying.

  • May be asked to participate in early talent events, seminars or trainings.

  • Performing assignments where trust and accuracy are required

Co-ops are typically placed in one of the following labs (though this is not always the case)

  • Materials Behavior - typical co-op work includes performing mechanical testing of materials (high/low/sustained peak fatigue, bend testing, ballistic impact, etc).

  • Polymer Matrix Composites - typical work includes performing composite layups for test panels and engine subcomponents and components.

  • Wear Lab - typical work includes performing tribological and environmental materials testing (sliding/impact/rub/erosion wear testing, jet engine thermal shock testing, cyclic thermal testing, etc)

  • Structures Airfoils and Repair - typical work includes sectioning/mounting of fielded hardware for characterization, communicating with engineers on unique features and utilizing advanced imaging equipment to characterize repair efforts.

  • These positions typically require hands-on work with machines, troubleshooting work, data documentation, and communication of project statues and results with the larger team.

Required Qualifications

  • Must have at least a 3.0 GPA (without rounding)

  • Working towards a degree in a technical field of study

  • Attending a full time matriculated two year technical program

  • Completed one full year of college

  • Proficiency in PowerPoint, Word, Excel and Outlook

  • Effective time management and organizational skills; able to balance multiple priorities

  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communications skills

Eligibility Requirements

Any offer of employment is conditioned upon the successful completion of a background investigation and drug screen. Legal authorization to work in the U.S. is required. Benefits

Pay rates for this position begin at $17/hour and increase for each undergraduate year completed. Relocation support and housing assistance is available for those who relocate to a new city.
