Job OverviewWe are seeking a highly skilled Human Factors Engineer to join our team. The ideal candidate will apply principles of human-centered design, ergonomics, and psychology to create systems, products, and processes that optimize safety, usability, and performance. This role involves conducting user research, designing intuitive interfaces, and ensuring compliance with human factors standards to enhance the overall user experience.
Essential Functions• Conduct qualitative and quantitative user research, including interviews, surveys, focus groups, and usability testing.• Analyze user needs, behaviors, and pain points to inform design solutions.• Develop user personas, scenarios, and task analyses.• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including product designers, engineers, and developers, to create user-friendly interfaces and systems.• Apply ergonomic and human-centered design principles to product and system development.• Create prototypes, wireframes, and mockups for testing and iteration.• Perform usability testing to assess product and system performance.• Identify potential risks and recommend design improvements to enhance safety and efficiency.• Conduct human reliability and workload assessments.• Ensure designs comply with relevant human factors standards, such as ISO 9241, MIL-STD1472, or FAA regulations, depending on the industry.• Stay updated on industry trends and emerging technologies related to human factors and ergonomics.• Prepare detailed reports and presentations summarizing research findings, design processes, and recommendations.• Provide documentation for regulatory submissions, when applicable.• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Competencies • Proficiency in human factors methodologies and tools, such as eye-tracking software, heuristic evaluation, or workload analysis.• Familiarity with design software (e.g., Adobe XD, Figma) and prototyping tools.• Strong analytical skills to interpret research data and apply insights to design solutions.• Excellent communication skills to collaborate with interdisciplinary teams and present findings effectively.• Knowledge of industry standards and regulations.• Experience with developing systems and tools for fully autonomous systems or human-in-the-loop systems.
Education / Certifications• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in human Factors Engineering, Ergonomics, Industrial Engineering, Cognitive Psychology, or a related field.• Certification in human factors or ergonomics (e.g., CPE, CHFP).
Experience• 5+ years of experience in human factors engineering, usability testing, or a related role• Experience in aerospace/defense products, applications and standards.• Background in programming or systems engineering is a plus.

Work ArrangementThis is an onsite position with occasional travel to customer facilities CONUS and OCONUS.
