Avio Aeros Chief Engineering Office is looking an Innovation & Intellectual Property (IP) Engineer - internship to locally support the organization, identification, development, management and analysis of high quality IPs, carrying out processes and strategies that protect our IP portfolio and know-how, hence our competitive advantage. The Innovation & IP Engineer demonstrates leadership in communicating business goals/programs/processes. Has problem solving skills. Able to develop and execute objectives for self and others. Able to leverage Digital Technologies to organize IP dashboards, workflows & metrics in reporting and business intelligence activities. He / She will primarily collaborate with the Engineering & Legal IP/Operations communities but is also able to support other cross functional teams (commercial, contracts, sourcing, finance, digital and compliance) in pursuit of business objectives and mitigate IP risks. In this role he/she ensures efficient operations and drives a culture of IP protection across the Engineering function and all the Company. He/she spreads the culture of continuous improvement, LEAN methodology, simplification and productivity in full respect of targets and schedule constraints, assuring a connection and alignment with the global GE Aerospaces IP Team Organization. A basic knowledge of Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) rules in European Collaborative Research Projects (e.g. Horizon Europe, Clean Aviation, EDF, MUR) is considered a plus for implementing IP strategies across the GE Aerospace European Research Network and others engineering technology groups. We are looking for a candidate who will work in the Avio Aero Brindisi plant, but smart working will also be allowed.

Job Description

The Innovation & IP Engineer acts as an initial point of contact for IP matters with some autonomy, but is focused on execution of activities/provision of advice within an enabling discipline covered by standard functional practices and procedures.

in this role, the candidate will have to:

  • locally support the management of Avio Aeros growing IP portfolio, patents and technical know-how;
  • identify, cultivate and harvest high quality invention disclosures and new ideas, guiding inventors through the IP protection process;
  • measure and analyze the Avio Aero IP Productivity by tracking KPI and promoting, with Engineering and IP Leaders, improvement actions.
  • lead and contribute to initiatives for increasing productivity and enhancing quality in the internal processes and tools governing management GE Aerospace’s IP assets;
  • able to leverage Digital Technologies to organize IP dashboards, workflows & metrics in reporting and analytics activities;
  • demonstrate accountability to plan and control all the Engineering IP topics, define objective and support the process to identify resources and collaborations across GE Aerospace organizations;
  • execute the design, analysis, or evaluation of assigned individual and team projects using sound engineering principles and adhering to business standards, practices, procedures, and product / program requirements;
  • develop and implement action plans to proactively respond to issues/ problems;
  • collaborating with other IP professionals to develop and execute IP strategies;
  • support the coordination of IP processes locally
  • support patent landscaping activities, working with technology and legal stakeholders to support competitive assessment and risk analysis as part of both the New Technologies Introduction and New Product Introduction processes;
  • investigate, analyze and manage IP opportunity & risk questions concerning suppliers, customers, partners and collaborators;
  • manage proprietary information protection activities, compliance risks, and interface with Cyber Security Team;
  • contribute to spreading the culture and awareness of IP protection, developing training within Avio Aero, including training for inventors;
  • support and coordinate activities with Engineering Leadership (i.e. Staff meetings and global updates with the GE Aerospace IP Team Organization);
  • establishing or improving IP-related Avio Aero policies and procedures, including employing LEAN principles to standardize work and leveraging resources efficiently;

Basic Qualifications:

  • Masters degree from an accredited university (preferred Engineering Management or other hard sciences combined with digital, legal or paralegal skills may be considered)
  • Project management skills
  • Able to leverage Digital Technologies to organize dashboards, workflows, forms & metrics
  • Willingness to learn outside of a comfort zone while exhibiting problem-solving, creativity
  • Office tools (Outlook, Excel, Power Point, Word, Project) proficiency
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills
  • Organizational rigor
  • Fluent in English and Italian, both written and oral
  • EU Work Permit
  • Work Visa and Italian citizenship, in accordance with local regulation, is required

Desired Qualifications:

  • Aerospace products knowledge
  • Previous exposure in Innovation, R&D, Intellectual Property or Patent management
  • Technical aptitude related to components and systems of increasing complexity
  • Ability to develop strategies and execute plans with a sense of urgency
  • Familiarity in IP activities such as developing IP claims and conducting investigations and interviews to support IP questions
  • Leadership and collaboration skills
  • Knowledge of the principles of IP law, in particular as regards patents
  • Knowledge of IP management principles applied to collaborative research projects, in particular regarding the EU Funded Framework.
  • Business partner approach – listens effectively and defines success from the stakeholder point of view
  • Creativity – transforms internal and external knowledge into novel solutions to demonstrate the value of IP as an enabling factor for market success
