Job Role:

The Future Combat Air System Acquisition Program (FCAS AP) provides the UK element of the Global Combat Air Program (GCAP), an international program the UK shares with both Italy and Japan. GCAP will design, develop and introduce to service a stealthy, sensor and information rich 6th Generation Air Platform.

You will be an integral part of a growing International FCAS Mission Systems Engineering team delivering the Design and Assessment Phase of the Future Combat Air System (FCAS/GCAP) programme. The Prime sensor on the aircraft will be the Multi-Function RF System (MRFS), which works in tandem with the Multi-Function Processor (MFP) to deliver forward sensing and other capabilities. As MFP Lead Engineer, you will act primarily as a technical point of contact engaged in: -

  • Managing the FCAS relationship with the MFP Supplier.
  • Ensuring the MFP meets UK expectations
  • Providing Design and integration support
  • Ensuring the Supplied documentation meets the required need.
  • UK & International travel as required

The team uses an agile work planning process to develop mission system concept options and architectures for the various components of a future combat air system. This is an opportunity to be involved in early life-cycle concepting activities in a major national and international collaborative programme which is critical to future UK defence.

Key Responsibilities:

Reporting to the EW & Defensive Aids Lead, as a technical expert, you will be responsible for identifying and assessing mission system solution options, technologies and philosophies and documenting and presenting the various trade-offs in cost, capability and maturity to inform concept selection and subsequent intial design activities. This includes:

  • Identifying Mission System requirements for the EW System
  • Work alongside Procurement, acting as the EW Supplier Manager
  • Collaborate with suppliers, partners and technology providers to determine candidate solutions
  • Assist in defining models of the solutions and their different emergent properties
  • Provide onsite EW domain knowledge, acting as an EW SME
  • Presenting an objective assessment of the merits of different EW solutions

Key Attributes:

  • A degree in a STEM subject or equivalent relevant experience
  • Experience/knowledge of the Radar Product Management lifecycle, including Design and development of RF Arrays. A basic knowledge of the Agile process is desirable.
  • Presentation Skills
  • Systems engineering methods and tools (e.g. UML/SysML, MoDAF, MOOD, Matlab)
  • Ability to work in a multi-partner / multi-national environment
  • Basic systems engineering Engineering Developing You (EDY) training
  • Ability to work with external partners and customers
  • Some experience of working in an agile environment
