Job Description/Responsibilities:
As a modeling and simulation engineer within the Warheads and Lethality group of Northrop Grumman’s Fuzing and Warheads unit, your responsibilities will be as a technical contributor on various product development or production programs. The primary focus of the tasking will be to perform physics-based simulations to predict performance of designs and determine resulting actions. You will work with other engineers, technicians, program managers and administrative personnel to accomplish your objectives. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Modeling and simulation, using advanced high strain rate Lagrangian and Eulerian computer hydrocodes, on a high-performance computing system.
- Utilize programming languages such as Python to develop varying simulation aids to aid the rapid development of designs.
- Participate as a member on an Integrated Product Team (IPT) warhead development programs, managing assigned responsibilities to accomplish program goals
- Lead/Conduct design trade studies to select the best possible design solution, taking into account factors including, but not limited to, system performance, strength, weight, manufacturability and cost.
- Three-dimensional mechanical modeling (CAD - computer aided design).
- Presentation of assigned work at program technical reviews and in written technical reports.
- Responsible for the design, fabrication and testing of components and assemblies related to fuzes and warheads.
- Work with Business Development and Program Management to present warhead designs and warhead design capabilities to customers.

Basic Qualifications:
- LEVEL 1: Must have a Bachelor’s degree in engineering (preferably Mechanical or Aerospace) or Computer Science Degree
- LEVEL 2: Must have a Bachelor’s degree in engineering (preferably Mechanical or Aerospace) or Computer Science Degree, plus 2 years of relevant experience. Or a Masters Degree and 0+ year of experience
- Experience in defense or aerospace industry preferred.
- Strong modeling and simulation skills or desire to learn, preferably with high strain rate tools such as CTH, ALE3D, EPIC, RADIOSS, LS-DYNA, or equivalent.
- Experience generating a finite element mesh with tools such as CUBIT or equivalent.
- Computer aided design (CAD) skills, preferably with PTC Creo (Pro-E) or SOLIDWORKS.
- Coding experience with computer programs such as Python or desire to learn.
- Possess an understanding of finite element analysis codes such as ANSYS or ABAQUS for structural analysis of designs.
- Strong communication skills, verbal and written.
- Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.
- Ability to multitask and organize/prioritize job assignments in a rapidly changing, short turn-around environment.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Power Point, Project).
- Ability to travel occasionally (approximately 4 to 10 times per year to meet with customers and suppliers)
- Security regulations require that the individual must be a U.S. citizen and must have the ability to obtain a DoD security clearance to a level of SECRET. It is highly desirable that the candidate already possesses a DoD SECRET clearance.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Strong mechanical skills and exposure to Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
- Experience with performing work on High Performance Computers.
- Working knowledge with Linux operating system.
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes is desired to include machining, 3D printing, additive manufacturing and injection molding.
- Knowledge of weaponeering or explosives engineering.
Salary Range: $70,600 - $106,000
Salary Range 2: $85,400 - $128,000
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidates experience, education, skills and current spanet conditions.
Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
