Technology upgrades will be introduced across all modules as necessary to meet challenging customer requirements.
The Executive Design Leader is a key engineering leadership team member who leads program execution in order to meet cost, schedule, and technical requirements. In this role, you will partner with the Systems Engineering, Project, and the broader Aerospace enterprise to deliver an advanced propulsion system on time and on budget. A high performing team must be built out to ensure that the engineering content is delivered. The successful candidate must be able to effectively works across the enterprise to improve coordination and execution of program efforts, acts as a key leader/reviewer for tech reviews, tollgate reviews, and design reviews, and owns/influences budgets and operating plans.

Job responsibilities:

  • Lead and oversee program deliverables on-time and budget
  • Lead and oversee engineering design practices to ensure quality goals and customer requirements are met.
  • Lead professional development of team and engagement
  • Build and manage a team ranging from PB to SPB and including Purchased Service support in order to meet challenging program objectives.  Energize the team, cultivate technical capability, build team capacity to deliver results, and develop team member career plans.
  • Serve as key member of Advanced Military staff, providing guidance, leadership mentoring and intervention to strengthen the discipline, quality, reliability and rigor of our engineering work
  • Drive the development and application of consistent design philosophies consistent with DoD direction
  • Ensure rigorous process is followed in the execution of Root Cause Analysis and corrective Action of product and process issues
  • Lead implementation of productivity and process improvements to unlock capacity within the team and across supporting disciplines and functions.
  • Develop Lean operating processes to drive program execution and identify, diagnose, and drive corrective actions.  Act as a Lean coach and mentor for the section.
  • Integrate and develop processes that meet business needs across the organization, manage complex issues within functional area(s) of expertise, be involved in long-term planning, and contribute to the overall business strategy.

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Physics or equivalent field from an accredited college or university.
  • Minimum 8 years of experience in Engineering, including 5 years of engineering leadership experience)
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a US Department of Defense security clearance
  • Due to security requirements, this position must be able to work a full-time in the office schedule

Desired Characteristics

  • Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited college or university
  • 5 years of engine design experience
  • Prior experience with new product development (NPI) process.
  • Prior experience with Lean process and management methodologies
  • Experience managing DoD EVM projects
  • Demonstrated strong coaching expertise
  • Demonstrated strong experience in working across business functions
  • Business acumen and customer mindset
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
  • Operational experience

This role is restricted to U.S. persons (i.e., U.S. citizens, permanent residents, and other protected individuals under the Immigration and Naturalization Act, 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3)) due to access to export-controlled technology. GE will require proof of status prior to employment.
