Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for an Obsolescence Engineer to support our Diminishing Manufacturing Sources and Material Shortages (DMSMS) team. The selected candidate will perform System and Component level Lifecycle Management Engineering activities for the Strike program Product Support group in Melbourne, FL.
There is no relocation for this position at this time.
The candidate must have excellent inter-personal, written and verbal communication skills as they work with teams of engineers, logisticians, buyers, etc. in pursuing recommendations for resolution of DMSMS issues. Candidate will focus on systems affected by obsolescence issues and help coordinate activities to ensure solutions are in place to minimize or prevent impacts to current contracts. Key aspects of the position include working effectively with Procurement/ Subcontracts, Integrated Product Teams, functional organizations, external customers and Program Management to identify, analyze, address, and resolve DMSMS issues.
Summary:
Diminishing Manufacturing Sources and Material Shortages is a discipline concerned with mitigating risk to procure ability and producibility of systems due to obsolescence and other related factors. For instance, a single-source manufacturing plant burns down, or a software company unexpectantly ends their support for certain licenses, or a microprocessor fab site discontinues a product due to profitability. The job requires individuals to read technical documents to perform analysis of alternatives, manage bills of material, become proficient in health screening and case management tools, work with suppliers, subcontract specialists and other engineers to create and execute technology roadmaps, collect and analyze large sets of data to inform business case analyses, and other responsibilities to ensure obsolescence impacts are reduced and avoided
Essential Functions:
- Gather, collect, record, track, and verify data from multiple sources and maintain DMSMS records
- Assist Engineering groups with the selection and validation of replacement components
- Facilitate DMS resolution activities including scheduling meetings, briefings, and discussion topics, preparation of agendas and meeting minutes. Participate in working groups and ad hoc committees/meetings
- Analyze and predict contract requirements to construct strategic DMS roadmaps for end-of-life subsystems and components
- Engage with senior management and government customers to ensure coordination and integration of DMSMS resolution activities
- Work with suppliers to ensure DMSMS issues are resolved at the lowest cost while maintaining high quality and reliability
- Assist in developing program metrics for evaluating the effectiveness of DMS activities
- DMSMS – Mitigates the impacts to the warfighter due to obsolescence.
- Work from engineering drawings and written or verbal instructions.
- Performs functional analysis, timeline analysis, detail trade studies. requirements allocation and interface definition studies.
- Develop recommended solutions to technical problems assigned
The successful candidate must be familiar with database management, and industry standard software tools (MS Office, Visio, and SharePoint). The successful candidate must have experience performing data analysis using Excel or comparable tools. Solid written and oral communications as well as presentation skills should be present as well, and candidate must be able to communicate their work, especially its significance and relevancy, in a clear, detailed manner.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM field (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) and at least 2 years of previous experience working in an Engineering or Technical position, writing and presenting technical documentation OR Masters Degree in STEM with 0 years of experience.
- Understanding of aircraft maintenance practices, and/or training systems from a conceptual standpoint.
- Ability to interpret a Bill of Material or parts list.
- Active DoD Secret Clearance is required prior to starting.
- Must have the ability to obtain and maintain Special Program Access.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Familiarity with Project Management processes and procedures.
- Experience with data mining techniques.
- Understanding of data analytics and visualization techniques.
- Familiarity with DMSMS concepts and processes.
- Active DoD Secret Clearance.
Salary Range: $70,200 - $105,400
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidates experience, education, skills and current spanet conditions.
Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
